Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Janis Flint-Ferguson
In the 1950s America was introduced to its own ?homegrown" sports car. Produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors, the 1953 Corvette was a fiberglass, two-seater designed to show American muscle in the international sports car world. Only three hundred of them were made the first year and their performance did not exactly match their design. By 1956 the car had been redesigned into a vehicle of merit. The next year fuel injection was added and the Great American Sports Car was born. Like Ford's Mustang, there have been a number of limited editions and specialty Corvettes. The car has been decorated with chrome and retractable headlights; it has had both big block and small block V8 engines. In general, each successive year has given way to new innovations and most have resulted in Corvette as the fastest American production car. That there is no 1983 Corvette model is one of the many interesting bits of information in this sixty-four page informational text. The future Corvette Owners Association was started for those younger than 16 and certainly they and other young readers will be interested in adding this text to their libraries. The text includes historical information along with technical statistics, color photographs, an index, glossary and timeline. Part of the "Superstar Cars" series. Reviewer: Janis Flint-Ferguson
