Overview

Meet three women who aren't about to run and hide just because the world says they should be on the shelf and out of circulation.

Kat
Her life seems perfect until she loses her high-powered advertising job and catches her live-in lover in a compromising position—with his computer!

Carla
This sexy TV news anchor is in danger of being replaced by a twentysomething blond bimbo. Wasn't it just yesterday that she was the up-and-coming star?

Elise
A married dermatologist, Elise thinks her plastic surgeon husband is playing doctor with someone else.

Kat firmly believes that aging gracefully isn't about giving up; it's about living life with your engine on overdrive. So this unofficial "Cougar Club" quickly learns three things about survival of the fittest in today's youth-obsessed society: True friendship never dies, the only way to live is real, and you're never too old to follow your heart.

Publishers Weekly
They are middle-aged, hear them roar. And so they do, this trio of 40-something careerists and lifelong BFFs—Kat, an out-of-work and out-of-love New York advertising exec; Carla, a St. Louis anchorwoman who’s protecting her turf from an invading bimbo; and Elise, a successful dermatologist wife and mom who’s undone by her empty nest and empty sex life. Kat’s abrupt job loss sends her running home to St. Louis, which triggers a reunion of the three friends and prompts their rediscovery of each other and the awakening of their inner cougars. In the process, the gals rifle through a slew of good-looking young hunks in the search for love and meaningful employment. The journey is full of curves and detours, even if the destination is a foregone conclusion. McBride, author of the YA series the Debs, explores new territory with these adult heroines and puts together a good-old-girls club with characters who are smart and insatiable, and who like their men young, athletic, and accommodating. It may not be likely, but it sure is a fun fantasy. (Feb.)

Sassy, independent, devoted, and over 40, three women reunite after 20 years

Veteran author Susan McBride has taken off in a new direction: rather than debutantes she is dealing with women over 40 who don't feel their age should be a factor with which to judge them. Their skills on the job or in life don't suddenly disappear. They still have close friendships that will endure. They still have needs and desires they want to fulfill, and they feel they are far from being too old to do so. I know this with a newfound confidence.

The three main characters in THE COUGAR CLUB - three women over 40 - are multi-dimensional, sassy, funny, and real.

Susan McBride has proven herself that life isn't over at 40, so why shouldn't her characters enjoy their lives as well? I hadn't realized how much women were not just left out but pushed out, of their jobs, their social lives, their close relationships just for growing older. I salute the spirit of these cougars for holding on to their dreams and tackling life head on.

I could only come to this conclusion if Susan McBride had written her characters with passion, zest, and sometimes plain stubbornness. Yet they are human, too, needing that time to curl up with a childhood Snoopy and grieve what they've lost and what's been taken away. Then they dust themselves off and fight their way back to living happy fulfilled lives, meeting new challenges and making their way through the world with grace.

I very much enjoyed the uplifting story of three childhood friends reuniting, each at a different place in her life. Each of those places was about to change, but exactly how, and how much, was not evident until the last page was turned. I haven't enjoyed being caught off guard reading well into the night for quite some time. Wow, that was fun.

    Fun, warm, witty women's fiction

The Cougar Club centers around three life long friends- Kat, Carla and Elise. They've just turned 45 and each of them is facing changes in their lives. Kat gets canned from her ritzy Manhattan advertising firm and simultaneously dumps her going no where relationship with a younger man. She moves back to her home town of St. Louis where she reconnects with Elise, a dermatologist, and with Carla, a prominent local TV anchorwoman. Carla is in danger of losing her job to a younger woman and Elise's plastic surgeon husband might be having an affair. I really loved the friendship among the women and how they dealt with turning "older" in a youth obsessed society. I have to admit, Carla "Car" was my favorite. This was a fun, fast paced read with a happy ending that I didn't want to end!

    A quick read

This book was an easy quick read. While I didn't actually fall in love with the characters, they didn't annoy me either. No real depth but your typical chick lit book I guess-take it to the beach you won't be disappointed

This is a fun tale of three women seeking their groove

Forty-five year old New Accounts advertising team leader Kat Maguire is downsized after fifteen loyal years at her firm; when she finds her twenty-eight years old lover Roger having cyber sex she downsizes him. She decides to go home to St. Louis where her family and two BFFs live.

Her buddy Carla Moss is a successful news anchor, but the station seems to be grooming a bimbo replacement. She also has personal problems as her beloved mom is losing her grip on realty.

Dermatologist Dr. Lisie Randolph has been successful at work, with raising her kids and apparently in marriage. However, the empty nest syndrome is hammering at her while her spouse whom she married in college ignores her.

These three middle age women in terrific shape physically, but a bit down mentally unto they re-forge their friendship and go on the prowl as cougars hunting young male meat. However, each knows deep inside their soul they really seek love, commitment and the meaning of life.

This is a fun tale of three women seeking their groove as middle age has each wondering if that is all there is to life while attempting to hang onto their dwindling youth. The characters are solid including the support cast of each of the lead females and the rotating point of view enhances understanding what each wants. Although somewhat unlikely perhaps even over the top of the Arch, fans will root for the Cougar Club members to get what they want.

I like it, just a few misspelled words, but I believe it is just from the terrible NOOK keyboard. A great start, sounds good, I LOVE the ending too, it ends just like a usual chapter in a book does, like the universe; If it starts with a bang, then it shall end woith a boom.:) ~2GA2

    Cougars Story-Chapter #1

In a warm nursary, a brown and golden shecat lay inside a big nest, grooming the fur of her two newborn kits. The father of the kits sat nearbye, watching. "What will theyre names be?" The queen asked her mate. Looking at the bigger kit, whos fur was all firery gold with black paws and ears, Farmstar decided. "His name is Fire." Farmstar said. "And he," Farmstar gestured to the smaller kit who was a very light brown with white paws, underbelly and nose, "He is Cougar." Scardust nodded approvingly and reutrned to grooming her kits fur. Farmstar silenly gazed forward with a sidetracked look. Noticing, Scardust said, "I know this is a bad time for you Farmstar, with everything going on, but theyre here now. Why not just enjoy it?" Farmstar flattened his ears "What are you talking about? Nothings going on, so mind your own business." He growled smuggly. "Besides, all kits are is trouble until you train them. So you have lots of work to do, wouldnt you say?" Scardust stayed quiet, not sure why her .ate had suddenly taken to treating her so. "I will back in a couple days," Farmstar remarked giving Scardust a quick lick, although she knew there was no love behind it. "Were are you going now?" Scardust asked humbly. "It esnt concern you." Farmstar retorted coldly. "Take care of my kits." He said before striding away and out of the camp. Scardust sighed and licked her new kits with love and compassion. She realized that these two had brought out a motherly instinct of kindness and caring, that she hadnt felt ever before except when for a flicker in time she had felt true love for Farmstar. The queen tucked her head next to her kits and began to sleep, unaware of the nightmare awaiting her.
