Could We Be Friends? and Other Poems for Pals

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 1-3A collection of pedestrian verses. While the subjects will interest children (siblings, new kids, name calling, chicken pox), the language and imagery are uninspiring and replete with clichs, and many of the rhymes and rhythms are awkward. "Greeting card" lines abound, e.g., "All of us are children./All of us like fun./All of us are special/every single one." The accompanying acrylic paintings are only average in quality and look muddy despite an extensive use of color, effectively mirroring the mediocrity of the poetry. This book is at best harmless, and with so many outstanding collections available, harmlessness is no justification for purchase.Carrie Schadle, New York Public Library
