Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
HUNGRY MIND
"Our guides for these trips are a trio of computer illustrations...They show up among the stunning photographs and offer friendly and amusing quips...you almost get the feeling you are on safari with the Simpsons."
Parent Council
This chunky board book introduces young children to a pod of five whales, a pride of six lions, a parcel of nine penguins, and other animal groups. It incorporates the colorful, whimsical cast of Doodlezoo characters with nature photography to help little ones learn their numbers.
Children's Literature
This pop up counting book is cleverly designed. In only ten pages, ten very thick pages, Crowther has packed in hundreds of tiny creatures to be found and counted. The reader opens the book and immediately sees the numbers one, two, and three in stark bold black numerals, filling the page. A tiny spider's web hangs from the top of the number one. A yellow beak peaks out of the number two and the number three has some tiny bites taken out of it. Above them the numbers are spelled out. As the reader pulls the tab for the number one, a spider drops down out of the web and the tab reads, "one spider." If the reader flips open the number two, a swan and her young appear with the words, "two swans." As the reader pulls the tab under number three, three happy caterpillars crawl out of the bite holes. The next two pages display the numerals four through nine and each number flips open or pulls down to reveal groups of snails, goldfish, birds, field mice, crabs, and bees, all in appropriate amounts. The rest of the book follows this same pattern with the numbers 10 through 20 and then up to one hundred in increments of ten. Number ninety might make the reader itch as it hides ninety tiny fleas!
