Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Dino fans will be delighted with this series." - School Library Journal
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
One of kids' favorite creatures (dinosaurs) is the focus of this series of books aimed at teaching basics such as counting, shapes, colors and the alphabet. In Countasaurus, a blue pterodactyl is featured on the cover of this oversized, shaped board book. Since no one really knows the colors of various dinosaurs, the artist has used a colorful palette in depicting the various dinosaurs and other creatures that lived during the age of dinosaurs. On the first spread a Diplodocus tail (1 tail) stretches across the pages. The blue pterodactyl is replaced by a red one that soars on two (2) tough wings. A Triceratops has three horns (3) on its head while a Stegosaurus has four (4) spikes on its tail. Ichthyosaurs has five (5) fins, but a Velociraptor which is a meat-eating land creature has six (6) fingers with six sharp claws. Readers also meet Microraptors, Stegosaurus, and a herd of Maiasaura. The last page ends with ten dinosaur eggs, but also presents a challenge to count 50 teeth in the mouth of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The complicated names will be quickly learned and one hopes that the numbers will also become part of the young listener/reader's knowledge. However, only the Arabic numerals appear in the text and not the word for each number. Other titles available include Alphasaurus, Colorasaurus, and Shapeasaurus. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
