Children's Literature - Lorraine Donohue BonzeletThis board book helps toddlers count all the way to twenty. Each page contains two sets of animal photos, separated by tiny blue paw prints. The book starts with one adorable fuzzy ape followed by two white sheep with ears that stick out. Some of the animals included are the typical dogs, cats and horses. Others are a nice surprise: hedgehogs, pandas, hamsters and caterpillars. In the double digits, toddlers might find it challenging to point to the animals. At the end of the book, parents are given some counting tips and children are praised with a congratulatory “Hooray!” Throughout, the numbers are displayed in both numeric representation and written form. This book is part of the “Rookie Toddler” series and contains the familiar blue and yellow scalloped edges. Counting to twenty is the goal and admiring the cute array of animals is a pleasure. Reviewer: Lorraine Donohue Bonzelet; Ages 1 to 3.
