Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 1—A variety of Flensted mobiles were used to illustrate this concept book. Each mobile features shapes of specific creatures suspended on the page by thin black (or white) lines along with a simple addition or subtraction word problem. Whether readers are counting chickens and their eggs or deciding whether there are more bats than cats, the clean lines and use of bright contrasting colors make this an especially appealing title. Each spread features an "extra credit" question, such as how many balls would be left if the juggler dropped two? Cover cutouts and interior embossed images add a tactile experience to the book. An introductory note introduces the Flensted mobiles, which originated in Denmark in 1954. An interesting addition to math collections and an inspiration to those who appreciate this art form.—Mary Jean Smith, Southside Elementary School, Lebanon, TN
