Children's LiteratureThis "Slide 'n' Seek" book was designed and illustrated by Chuck Murphy, who is actually a sculptor of books. In this work he has created a six-page board book, but waitthe middles actually slide out of each page to illustrate the numbers from one to ten. Every page, including the covers, has a large colorful arrow indicating that it should be pulled. Thus, on the first page, with a large pink figure of the number one and the word spelled out below the number, a pull of the arrow brings out a sturdy insert with the picture of one yellow duck captioned "1 duck," and so on. At the end, ten numbered blocks slide out to illustrate the number 10. Lifting out both the covers and examining the back strip will reveal how much paper engineering went into designing a book that will take hard wear. 2002, Little Simon, . Ages 1 to 4.
