Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Among the things that kids should know and be able to name before entering kindergarten are the numbers from 1 to 10. As the title states in this "Rookie Toddler" series, the focus is on both tools and counting. Times have changed as shown by the first image of a battery powered drill. However, the tape measure has not really changed much in the last 50 years. The saw is still a handheld version and so are the hammers and screwdrivers. The nine levels, the one item that may be the least familiar to kids, are followed by 10 nails. The items and numbers in both Arabic and text format are recapped on the closing spread. The tip for parents recommends making counting a part of everyday life as you assemble toys, or place food on a plate or tray. As the back cover states "Colorful photos of familiar objects make it easy for your toddler to learn about counting." Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
