Overview

This compilation focuses more on Flatt & Scruggs' contributions to traditional country music as opposed to the bluegrass that they became world famous for. However, their keening vocal harmonies and traditional interpretations still shine, despite the too-infrequent blasts from Earl Scruggs' brilliant banjo. The songs "Thinking About You" and "You Are My Flower" still ring true as vintage country tunes, but the bluegrass chestnuts "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" and specifically "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" fall a little short compared to versions from other recording dates. ~ Zac Johnson
