Overview

Commitment is more than an act of love. It is an act of faith. And it is faith that keeps love aloft, holds it high above the flood waters of bored indifference by the application of a tenacious will.
Couples

In our day and age of well-publicized infidelities and depressing divorce statistics, the idea of true commitment in a marital relationship has come to be an archaic, romantic notion for many people. However, the creators of Couples: A Celebration of Commitment discovered that in spite of all the negative media, we are surrounded by couples quietly commemorating decades of happily married life.

This extraordinary book is a tribute to such love and devotion, with a special aim to relate the formulas of success behind 35 special couples who have more than weathered the tests of time. Photographer M. I. Hamburg and author Catherine Whitney offer intimate portraits and profiles of both famous and not-so-famous unions that all have one thing in common—enduring love and loyalty. Some of the couples profiled within Couples include: Bill and Judith Moyers, Steve and Cokie Roberts, Governor Mario and Matilda Raffa Cuomo, Judge Jerry and Judge Judy Sheindlin, and Adolph Green and Phyllis Newman.

With its mesmerizing portraits and inspiring prose, Couples captures the unique character of each couple, offering readers a colorful range of insights on committed life. Although many of the couples are accustomed to the spotlight, this is often the first time they have been asked to reflect on the deeply personal details of their partnerships. The result is a series of wonderfully honest dialogues. A refreshing piece in our socially turbulent times, Couples offers inspiration to all.
