Editorial Reviews

Barbara Jacobs
Un-bear-ably cute is this very brief story of the teddy bear. Essentially, it's a chronology of the bear's development, beginning with the Steiff prototype in 1902 and ending with special editions and artist-rendered toys. Color photographs, more than words, show beginners the finer points of distinguishing "real" bears and avoiding auction frenzy (such as a Steiff bear selling for $86,000 in 1989). Supplement this "bear bones" documentation with such books as Cockrill's "The Teddy Bear Encyclopedia", among others. Appended are lists of museums, recommended reading, shows and conventions, magazines, and clubs and associations.
