This collection of twelve short stories contains a variety of characters and settings that are bound to capture the teen fantasy fan's attention. Each author paints a different portrait of the fey, introducing the world of faerie. "Gallow's Rescue" by Lilith Saintcrow starts off the collection with a wistful look at the seelie. Sarah Hoyt's "An Answer from the North" tells the story of King Albric and Cedric, who challenges the king. Mary Robinette Kowal's "Goodhouse Keeping" gives a modern spin to the fairy realm, complete with Brownie. Paul Crilley's "The Song of the Wind" is a simple love story. Rob Thurman's "First Ball . . . Last Call" chronicles the world's demise and the contrast between the Light and the Dark Fey's power. Jenifer Ruth's "Beauty" tells of a fairy eavesdropping on the human world, while Kerrie Hughes's "Pennyroyal" and Dean Wesley Smith's "Unlocked Gate" are on the darker side. J. A. Pitts "Mushroom Clouds and Fairy Rings" is slightly more whimsical, and Jane Lindskold's "Hunting the Unicorn" tells of kelpie and seelie. Amber Benson's "Green Man" evokes Celtic folklore at its finest. Michelle Sagara's "Anne" sounds like a real woman, a thoughtful baker who lives between the worlds of mortal and other. This collection has something for everyone; it is easy to imagine a teen devouring it on the bus, waiting for soccer practice, or at an orthodontist appointment. Not C. S. Meet the Author

In 1995 Martin H. Greenberg was honored by the Mystery Writers of America with the Ellery Queen Award for lifetime achievement in mystery editing. He is also the recipient of two Anthony awards. Mystery Scene magazine called him "the best mystery anthologist since Ellery Queen." He has compiled more than 1,000 anthologies and is the president of TEKNO books. He lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
