Overview

A review of crochet standards, chart reading, and technique is combined in this guide with a course on sizing crocheted garments to fit like a glove—all in the interest of encouraging crocheters to try their hand at lace fashions that look as though they came straight off a ready-to-wear runway. Patterns include a metallic ribbon Chanel-style jacket, a lace shift dress with a mohair lace camisole, a cowl-neck trapeze tunic, and a chevron wedding dress with matching fingerless gloves. Those who want a gorgeous look in a smaller project will revel in the striking designs for hats, jewelry, and spangled evening bags. Explanations of accurate measuring, silhouettes, circular construction, shell and chevron stitches, and custom detailing demystify the more advanced designs, and beautiful photographs showcase all the finished pieces.

SlipKnot: The Journal of the Knitting & Crochet Guild
There's lots of good advice and theory in this combination of textbook and collection of garment patterns. A great introduction to designing one's own fitted garments in crochet.

KLIATT - Shirley Reis
This is an interesting book that focuses on creating custom wearables and accessories. The descriptions, photos and wide variety of articles will surely entice many to try their hand at fashions that look like they came straight off the runway. The first part is about knitting techniques, binding, seaming, blocking, reading charts, planning your own pattern, refinements in fitting and crochet-specific stitching. Articles are presented according to the various techniques required, such as simpler stitches, circular construction, manipulating lace, shell stitch construction and chevron stitch construction. Lists of abbreviations, sources for further reading, and suppliers are included at the end of the book. Lily M. Chin is an internationally famous knitter who has designed for magazines and yarn companies. She has crocheted runway pieces for a number of well-known fashion designers. She is also the host of a knitting show on the Oxygen channel, Stitchcraft. The book is written in an easy-to-understand style. The tips on fitting make it especially helpful for anyone who would like to create garments that fit like a glove and are highly fashionable.
Library Journal

Chin (Knit and Crochet with Beads) has done perhaps more than any other living knitwear designer to change the stereotype of the dowdy crocheter and knitter, even appearing in her trademark miniskirt on The Late Show with David Letterman, where-billed as the world's fastest crocheter-she created a sweater (of sorts) for the television host in 40 minutes. According to Chin, true couture implies custom fitting, luxury materials, and fine finishing, all of which are attainable by crocheters determined to master the techniques she teaches. Each of her 24 designs illustrates a different aspect of the couture crochet experience, from choosing appropriate yarn and hooks to measuring accurately for fine fitting. Garments include a chevron pullover, a vest constructed from a full circle, shawls, jackets, skirts, and crocheted accessories. Enthusiastically recommended for all public library crochet collections for its combination of solid instruction and excellent selection of crochet designs.
