Beware a girl in pointy shoes!

A girl wearing pointy shoes might be a witch. And the first thing a spook's apprentice learns is never, ever to trust a witch.

  • a dead witch who lurks under rotting leaves and hunts for blood . . .
  • Alice, Tom Ward's best friend, who once lived with one of the darkest witches of all . . .
  • and a witch whose cry of revenge can kill.

The dark is all around. Who will survive?

I just got this book yesterday, and I am already loving it. But, it is not how I thought it would be. Instead of actually being the seventh book in the series, like I expected, it is actually just a short book(about 200 pages), that explains stories of the character's past, like how John Gregory, The Spook, first met Meg Skelton, and how Alice Dean was born into the Pendle Witch Clan. It also has the story of two other witches that were never mentioned in the series. Other then not continuing off where Clash Of The Demons(The sixth book), ended, this book is great. This book is similiar to another short book in the series, The Spook's Tale And Other Horrors, which also came out recently, because it's not really part of the storyline. Also, it is similiar to Rick Riordan's "The Demi-God Files", from the Percy Jackson series, which is also a book filled with 3 short stories, interviews from the characters, etc. But if you were wondering about the actual seventh book in the series, it is called "Rise Of The Huntress", and the first two chapters are in the back of "A Coven Of Witches", this book. This book/series is definetely worth reading, but unfortunately, it is not very well known. If you like fantasy, like me, and you are looking for a good book, go to the store immediately, buy the first book, and start reading!

Enjoyed the background info on the Wardstone Chronicles characters...this is a good read to tide you over until the next full length book comes out.

This is not book nine. It fills in missing bits from the real plot with info and stories on the whitch clans and others. Still good though.

Gives great history and more details of some of the witches you meet along with the regular series.

This is one of the best series out right now. But can someone please tell me, is this book nine?

This book was amazing! I just love the way the author writes the series, and also this companion to the last apprentice. The stories feature many characters from the original books and the it includes some great art through out the book.

Witches, Spooks, salt, , and silver chains. As always Joseph Delaney manages to weave a fascinating tale that shows the past of the characters I have come to love. Gregory and his error with Meg. Alice and her introduction to the world of Witches, and the preview of the coming book Rise of the Huntress was a surprise and just as enjouyable. Be warned about this story it is graphic in its description of death and gruesome situations, but nothing like a slasher movie or anything that grotesque. Nonetheless the plot moves quickly refusing to be put down and the characters have their charm and all in all it is a great read. Anyone who liked Delaney must get this, and anyone who hasn't heard of him should pick up the first book Revenge of the Witch.
