Covered in Goth Hell is a classic Cleopatra release. The label is typically regarded as playing into the dark side on its various-artists compilations, and this particular double disc doesn't fall short on the rage and mystery. Disc one of Covered in Goth Hell showcases some of the biggest darkwave artists of the '80s and '90s -- such as Switchblade Symphony, Gene Loves Jezebel, Nosferatu, and Electric Hellfire Club -- to portray goth rock in terms of poetic romanticism. Disc two is a bonus, a haunting soundtrack of sorts playing into the horrors of Halloween, thanks to cuts by Christian Death's Rozz Williams. Overall, this compilation captures a scene without the synthetic ambience. It's dark and dreary, just like its intent.
