Read an Excerpt

My grandfather's Stetson rests on a shelf above me. R. C. Lawry wore his hat during the twenties an thirties, when he had the horse ranch outside of Tucson. That hat holds many of his great stories and memories--if it could only talk. There are no keys to unlock those tales, but the hat speaks of both good times and bad, in the sun and in the rain. The felt of the hat shows wear--wear from the passage of time, created and sustained by remembered, treasured experiences outdoors and on horseback. All old cowboy hats speak of experience. Each tear, each crease says something about the owner--where he's been or what she'd been through.
