Overview

They may ride off into the sunset, but cowboys never go out of style. These manly men embody the fiercely independent, earthy alpha male and hero who isn’t afraid to show the gentle, nurturing side of his complex nature when faced with a woman in need. Even when he’s coated with dust from riding behind a herd of cattle or up to his knees in mud freeing a calf from a wallow, this stud still generates a lot of Cowboy Heat. Delilah Devlin's Cowboy Lust was a sensation, hitting the top ten of romance books and generating a river of praise. Award-winning Devlin is back on the ranch with stories of rugged romantics, rough riders, and rope wranglers sure to satisfy any reader who craves the idea of that gruff, romantic hero, a man of few words but many moves. Cowboy Heat sits tall in the saddle, winning hearts and spurring readers to new heights of happiness.

What could have been an enjoyable romp through cowboy clichés is marred by the inclusion of several stories with disturbing undertones. The inclusions that stand out for the right reasons are Cynthia D’Alba’s clever “Backstage Pass” and Randi Alexander’s excellent “Skin Deep.” In contrast, Layla Chase’s “Her Captured Cowboy,” where a historical setting is the flimsy excuse for overt racism and sexual assault, reads like a checklist of everything that could go wrong with the genre. Megan Mitcham’s “Coming Home” is clearly intended to be about a woman reuniting with her first crush, but it portrays a relationship that’s borderline abusive. After those two, the rest of a largely lackluster collection is a welcome relief. For readers new to the genre, this isn’t the most flattering introduction; those who have been to the western romance rodeo will know they can do a lot better. (June)

From the foreword:

For years, I lived in the Texas Hill Country, my ranch-style house was one of many look-alikes in a rural subdivision, with my back yard butted up against a working ranch. After I woke to the insistent mooing of a cow at my bedroom window and her moist breaths fogging the glass, I put up a chain link fence, which gave me a unique vantage. My view was panoramic— grassy fields, clumps of wildflowers, rolling hills, a tall rugged escarpment in the distance—cowboys riding horses and motorized mules as they herded cattle.

Those cowboys came in all sizes and shapes, but wore “the uniform” well—chambray shirts year-round, occasionally torso-hugging T-shirts, if they didn’t expect to be in the sun too long, Wranglers—do cowboys wear anything else?—and scuffed, broken-in boots. And then there was the hat. Those cowboys I watched from my back yard might have worn the same brand of pale, straw cowboy hat, but the brims were shaped according to their individual preferences—some draped low over deep-set eyes, some brims curled tight at the sides to tell you the man wearing it was a little wild and likely playful. If I’d known what I was going to be when I “grew up,” I would have learned the language of those hats.
What I did learn was that their muscled frames weren’t honed in any gym—cowboys work damn hard. And they take pride in what they are—a living, American icon. Honest, protective and on the side of justice, they walk the walk.

My favorite memories are of strolling down the sidewalk in the small nearby town and passing a tall, lean cowboy coming the other way. Without fail, he’d touch his hat and give me a nod. More often than not, he’d say, “Howdy, ma’am.” As corny as that scenario might be, that greeting never failed to make me blush and smile. Back when I wasn’t free to act on my attraction, I had my little fantasies. Maybe cowboys made me what I am.

Seems plenty of writers love a sexy cowboy, too. Narrowing down the choices from the deluge of sexy stories I received was tough. In the end, I selected the stories that turned me on and made me wish I was the girl enjoying her first cowboy. You’ll meet rodeo cowboys, Outback jackaroos, cowboys from all over the Western states—all of them turning up the heat on the one girl they can’t let go. Enjoy the slow burn.

An enjoyable variety of erotic cowboy tales. “Cowboy Heat” is an anthology edited by the very busy Delilah Devlin which features short stories by 15 talented authors who have written sizzling stories featuring cowboys. There is a remarkable mixture of locations featured, including a polocrosse game in Queensland in Cheyenne Blue’s “Cowboy Downtime”, a bar in Colorado called the Wrong Turn in Randi Alexander’s “Skin Deep”, Las Vegas in Cynthia Alba’s “Backstage Pass”, Kansas in Amber Lin’s “At the Mercy of the Cowboy” and Texas in Michael Bracken’s “Cowboy Adonis” and Robie Madison’s “Denim and Lace”. It was fun revisiting the setting of Myla Jackson’s Ugly Stick Saloon series in the emotional “Shall We Dance” and entertaining seeing the unfolding relationship between a frustrated lawyer and her rescuer in Sabrina York’s “A Cowboy for Delilah”. All of these stories and more feature very sexy men who aren’t afraid to seduce or be seduced by the fascinating women who have come into their lives. There are very poignant stories about new beginnings, sometimes after very traumatic experiences, reminders about the importance of being open to new experiences and fun tales which highlight the benefits of seizing an unexpected opportunity. This is a great combination of intriguing tales that showcase the talents of a wonderful collection of authors who know how to combine spice and an entertaining story. Some of these authors are new to me but I will definitely be on the lookout for other works by them. © Night Owl Reviews I received a copy of this title in return for an honest review.

Do you know how hard it is to give an anthology five stars, it means that every story in the book has to be a four to five star read, well this is one of them, and for fourteen stories that is amazing.  The book is called cowboy heat and wow yes it is packed full of good old cowboys packing an awful lot of heat and I don't mean their guns. The stories are very steamy all m/f and are sure to have you reaching for your fan and a glass of nice cool water. The stories range from the old west to the modern times but in every one of them is a very hot cowboy. Not all the stories have a HEA ending, some leave you wanting more, but there are no cliffhangers just very talented authors who can tell you a story and leave the rest up to your imagination.  I'm not going to go into a review of every story, but there are some of my favourite authors included and some new authors for me which is one of the joys of an anthology, finding old favourites and coming across authors  that will become new favourites. So to find your favourite cowboy settle back and enjoy while these stories take us to meet the men that we dream about. I received a free copy for an honest review.

Out of all the Romance for Women anthologies I've read, Cowboy Heat takes the prize. All fourteen stories were scorching hot, and anything you've probably heard about cowboys come true in this sizzling collection. All of them were M/F and very erotic with graphic sex and language. If you don't like the "c" word, you might not enjoy some of the stories. If I had to rate each one individually, the majority would rate between 4 or 5 stars. If you love sexy cowboys who treat their women right, are true gentlemen, and well endowed then you'd be crazy to pass this up. Stand out stories were: Remember by Mia Hopkins involving a jilted bride and a stripper, Back Stage Pass by Cynthia D’Alba where a hired escort looks exactly like the woman's favorite county singer, One Track Cowboy by Delilah Devlin was seriously hot with a dominant cowboy, Skin Deep by Randi Alexander had a Beauty and the Beast theme that was so sweet, romantic and hot. I could go on, but there's limited space here. They were all so good. Get it, I promise you will not regret it. Mine is going on my nightstand. Full disclosure: Complimentary copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.

When I seen the lineup for Cowboy Heat, I knew it was a book that I must read! This is a great lineup of authors who are very talented. Each story contained great characters and scenes that were oh wow, steamy! I love a book about cowboys and this book contains fourteen stories awesome stories about fourteen HOT cowboys. What more could a girl ask for? There are many great stories included and it would be really hard to choose a favorite. Some of my favorite authors that are included in this anthology. Randi Alexander has a great story about a couple that has both been through a lot. They just might be what each other is looking for. I really liked this story. Sabrina York has a story titled A Cowboy for Delilah. The title was enough to interest me. The story was even better! There were several authors that I had not had the opportunity to read yet and I know now that I certainly would love to read more of their work. I don't think their was an author in this anthology that I would not love to read more of!  There are so many great stories I could go on and on about all of them, however I think I will just let you grab your own copy and read each of these steaming hot stories for yourself. Each story is just right for a quick read before bed, or while you are waiting for an appointment. I have to say that a few of them I would love to find out more about the characters in a few of the stories.  If you enjoy steaming hot stories, about extremely hot cowboys and the women that love them, then I think you will really enjoy this anthology.  I was given the opportunity to read this book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Cowboy Heat.
