Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Cowboy Ned and his horse Andy were doing their job—herding cattle and finding a spot where they could rest and drink some water before bedding down for the night. As he gazed into the night, Ned sighed because the next day would be his birthday and he had no friends or family to help him celebrate. Andy thought about this and decided to set out and see if he could find a birthday cake for Ned. Along the way he met and asked a cricket for help, then an owl and a scorpion, but they had no idea where he could find a cake and all he got was directions to visit an old cowboy who lived on a hill. The cowboy did not have a cake, but he gave Andy some excellent advice and off Andy trotted to spend the day with his best friend Ned. The illustrations are deceptively simple and the message of friendship comes across in the wonderful scene of Ned and Andy sharing a hug. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
