Settle in for the hot McKay romance that started it all...

Rough Riders, Book 16

The moment Carson McKay saw the sexy blonde at the dance hall, he wanted to throw her over his saddle and gallop hell-bent toward the closest church. Given his reputation as a lover and a fighter-not necessarily in that order-it wasn't surprising she gave him the cold shoulder. But he hadn't expected the mean right hook when he tried to steal a kiss.

Carolyn West might look sweet and innocent, but she's no fool. The good-looking cowboy with the heart-stopping smile didn't really want to marry her; he just wanted to take her for a test ride. But when he kisses her a second time, she doesn't fight her burning attraction to him...until she learns he's one of the McKay cowboys she's been warned about.

Carson doesn't care about the long-standing feud between their families; he knows that Carolyn was meant to be his. And the more intimate they become, the more Carolyn sees the real man behind the wild cowboy reputation-a man who wants the same forever kind of love she does...and who will lead her into a love story that spans fifty years.

Warning: Crazy, hot, sexy and sweet-good girl meets bad-boy cowboy and they prove lust can last a lifetime.

I don't want to give away any of the plot of the story so all I can say is that CTMA made me cry, made me laugh and made me happy. I started reading CTMA at 07:15 a.m and I read it for 13 hours with hardly any breaks since I just couldn't put it down. Carson is so romantic and I just loved reading how he and Carolyn fell in love 50 years ago. I loved the way Lorelei James wrote the book, it was the perfect balance between past and present time, so many times when there are flashbacks to the past in a book I feel confused and the flow of the story is interrupted but in this case going back in time made perfect sense and I thought the past and present time blended perfectly. I also loved the fact we got to see both Carson and Carolyn POV This is a must read for every fan of the Rough Riders series and if you haven't read any of the books in the series I highly recommend reading them all- it's one of the best series I have ever read and I'm just so sad it's over.

I can't believe this is the final Rough Riders book...but OH, WHAT A BOOK! The book spans 60 years, an epic finale to a love story that started it all. I don't even have the words to express how perfect this book was in every way. It had humor, pain, loss, emotional turmoil, but most of all it showed the reality behind a love that can span the years. It wasn't perfect but it was strong because of hard work. It showed that families struggle but can come out stronger because of the struggles. My hat is off to you because this book is exactly what it should have been...each character taking their place in the story through the lives of one very prominent couple. You see things so totally different through the eyes of Carson and many questions answered! ALL I CAN SAY IS IT WAS PERFECT...THE STORY, THE WRITING, THE ENDING! I am going to miss this series like no other but I will treasure the final book!

Lorelei James is THE best erotic romance author out there and she proved it with this story.  Make sure you read all the other novels in the series first, it makes this one even sweeter. LJ strikes the perfect balance of emotion, humor, substance and sexy to transport you through time with characters you grow to know and love throughout the series.  LOVE IT!!

This has by far been one of my top five favorite series and I have devoured everything Lorelei James has written since she is also in my top favorite authors. I was so happy to see there was a new addition to this series. I was completely blown away by Carson and Carolyn's story. But not only did Lorelei James tell their story but was able to give us bits of all the others as well. It was just so moving to finally get to see how their story began and how they managed to give in to the kind of love they had that has endured for 50 years. It was funny...sad...and just plain beautiful. To also have them go through such tragedy at the point in their lives with Carolyn's accident and Carson's devotion to her was breathtaking. I have enjoyed every laughter....every tear....every shred of happiness the McKay's have given us over the years and can only hope there is something left for us with this simply amazing family that the the author created and shared with us. Just so thankful I stumbled upon this series and author since it has given me more reading pleasure that I can thank her for. Highly recommend this book and anything Lorelei James writes because she is simply brilliant.

The Rough Riders series has had me hooked since Long Hard Ride. CTMA is the perfect ending to the series! I laughed, I cried, and then I did both again. This story is Carson and Carolyn's love story and whoa what a ride. Everyone dreams of having a love like that! This book deserves way more than 5 stars!

From someone who has read this entire series I can only think of one to thing to say....superb!!! This was a beautifully written conclusion to a spectacular collection of stories. I laughed, I cried, I smiled. I love the way the book was written and how I was able to feel like I lived their 50 years together right along with them. It's difficult to say good-bye to characters who become to feel like your own family, but this in my opinion couldn't have been a better farewell. The beautiful thing is that I can always go back and relive the magic again and again. Buy it. You will not be disappointed.

I can not begin to say how much I love this series.  Lorelei is an AMAZING and TALENTED writer who has the ability to tell a story that leaves you feeling like the characters are your best friends.  I have loved this series since i picked up book one by chance one day.  Carson and Caro are a powerhouse couple that I think everyone would want to know and have as parents, aunt/uncle or grandparents.  Their love is so amazing.  The way Carson loves her showed in every book and most importantly in this one.  I loved getting to see how they met, fell in love, the scenes with their kids through the years was great.  I have to say I fell more in love with Cord with every scene he was apart of.  I am sad to see the series end but It ended the best possible way with a little peak into everyone's life now and in the past. Thank you Lorelei for bringing the McKay's to us.

I cried then laughed, then cried some more and laughed some more!!! This book was an amazing, love-filled emotional ride and I loved every single word!!!! I read books all the time...tons of books and Lorelei, you are by far the best author I have read in a very long time!!! I saw and felt every word you wrote. My husband came home from work after I had finished reading CTMA and I just cried telling him about Carson and Caro's amazing love story. Thank you so much for bringing the McKay clan into my life!!!!!

I LOVE this series of books. Each and every book in this 16 book series was worth reading over and over again. I loved reading about the Mc Kay and West families. I so enjoyed reading about Carson and Carolyn's 50 year love story in the final book. I will miss reading about this family so much. Perhaps a spin off with all the grand kids in say 5 years when they grow up. Just saying....

Wonderful book and a story I wasn't sure I wanted to read about until I did.  We never really know our parent's motivations when it comes to certain things in our lives but in reading Carson and Carolyn's story, I feel I understand what motivated them when it came to their children.  What a great story from a great author!

I read a lot.....and have never re-read a book. But, this series?? I have re-read it three times before I finished the series with CTMA. Wow, there are no words to describe how moving this whole series is. I've laughed, cried, cussed and sighed. I came to the series late and was lucky to get to read the first 13 all in a row. Excellent writer and story-teller. I look forward to keeping up with my blacktop cowboys and any possible series Ms. James wants to write.

Unbelievable....I can not believe that the series is officially over. But man, oh man, what an ending and an incredible journey!  I can not even begin to tell you how sad it makes me that this wonderful family's story is at the official end.  I think I speak for quite a few of Lorelei's loyal readers when I say that this family has become real to us.  We live, laugh, cry and sigh along with all the characters and their lives as they unfold through the pages of her books.  In my mind these character are real because the way she writes them makes them feel real.  And this book was no exception.  It was amazing getting the insight into the parents that had started it all.  I am glad that I didn't get to re-read the series before reading this book, because now that I have this insight into the parents and how the family was growing up, I am looking forward to reading about the offsprings lives again (and again and again, because lets face it, her books are just that good that they can be re-read time and time again!!!!).  This book was a phenominal read and wonderfully put together.  The combination of going from present to past really allowed me as the reader to see how the life events of the past effected the outcomes in the future.  I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone.  I give this book and series the highest rating possible whether its 5 stars or two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

Hate to see this series come to an end, but really enjoyed this story. Even though it was back and forth between present and past, I really enjoyed reading how everything started. Loved this series!!!

All I have to say is thank you for such an amazing book! Like the other reviewers, I felt every emotion each character felt, especially the anguish at the prospect of losing someone you love with every fiber of your being. Each book in this entire series transports you into the life of this family and by the end, you feel as if you know each person on a deeply personal level, experiencing their lives right along with them. That is truly the mark of an extremely talented writer. Being able to explore the beginnings of this family, allows for a deeper love and understanding for the characters in all the Rough Riders series, so much so, I went back and re-read the entire series with this deeper perspective. It really made the journey all that more intense. I could sympathize with Carolyn's "Mama Bear" actions, and was able to connect with the one character I wasn't always pulling for, Carson. This book totally made me fall in love with and understand him. It has been a very long time since I have been able to submerge myself so deeply in a series of books. The series as a whole, and especially this beautiful genesis story, made me long to be sitting horseback ambling along the land these characters are so deeply connected to, witnessing all the same adventures as the McKays and Wests have experienced. Thank you for your passion that came tumbling out so beautifully through Carolyn and Carson, and all the other characters you have so elegantly created and loved. Thank you for making me fall in love with reading again. I highly recommend this as well as the other books in this series and by this talented author.

Lorelei James saved the best for last in her Rough Riders series. Carson and Caro story told in flashbacks was great. They have been the bedrock and touch stone for this series. Lorelei fills in gaps as to why from the whole series. This was a wonderful story--give it and this series a try. I would love to hear stories about the Grandkids--just saying. Thanks Lorelei James & Good Writing
