Overview

Good girls can play rough too…

Rough Riders, Book 10

Jessie McKay has accepted her marriage to Luke McKay wasn’t perfect. After two years of widowhood, she’s ready to kick up her bootheels—until Luke’s younger brother shows up to spoil her fun. But if Brandt thinks she’ll ever take orders from another McKay male, he’s got manure for brains.

Brandt McKay has avoided his sweet, sexy sister-in-law ever since the night he confessed his feelings for her weren’t the brotherly type. Unexpectedly faced with proof of Luke’s infidelity, Brandt is forced to ask for Jessie’s help in taking care of Luke’s young son. Jessie agrees on one condition—she wants Brandt’s boots exclusively under her bed for the duration.

The sexual heat that’s always simmered between them ignites. Brandt is determined to make the temporary situation permanent, proving to Jessie he’s a one-woman man. And Jessie is shaken by feelings she’s sworn never to have again for any man…especially not a McKay.

Warning: Contains branding-iron-hot sex , the one McKay on earth who wants to be tamed, and a woman who’s decided tame is for nice girls who finish last.

    The Best

This was one of the best books of the serious. I will always love the first book the most because it started my love for the entire family, but I honestly loved this book just as much! I couldn't put it down, read it in two days.

    The Romance Reviews Top Pick

This series gets better and better. I'm standing on my bed cheering for Brandt and Jesse!

Cowgirls Don't Cry is the tenth book in the Rough Riders series. While I do encourage readers to enjoy all nine of the previously published books, familiarity with previous events is not necessary for all-out enjoyment of the latest story. This book is for lovers of romance, family drama, hot sex and delicious cowboys. Prepare to be swept away as a little boy, a cowboy and a widow climb right into your heart.

Four years ago, Jesse McKay met and fell in love with Luke McKay. Quickly wed after becoming pregnant, their marriage began to fall apart after her miscarriage. Jesse continued to try to be everything for Luke even though he resumed his bar hoppin', girl hoppin' ways. When Luke died in a car crash two years ago, Jesse's world fell apart. Her birth father had left her, her stepfather for the most part had left her, and now her husband had left her. Talk about bad Ju Ju.

Brandt McKay fell in love with Jesse the first night he saw her at a bar. He bided his time until last year, when he confessed his feelings to Jesse only to be given the "we're just friends" speech. Even though she crushed his heart, he's back on her door step with his hat in his hand begging for a favor, to help him care for Luke's illegitimate son while his mother is in jail for six months.

Thank goodness Jesse has more of a backbone now than when she was with Luke. She stands up to Brandt and lays down some rules. But growing a backbone doesn't come at the cost of her heart. She sees the little boy as a victim of Luke's infidelity as much as she was, and of course our big hearted cowgirl agrees to help Brandt out.

There is so much more to this story. Plenty of family drama courtesy of Casper McKay and check ins with the entire McKay clan, but my delight definitely centered around getting to know Brandt and Jesse better. I enjoyed watching them struggle with the real life scenarios new parents face, all the while learning to lean on each other. And by the time they let loose and add the bedroom to their 'playing house' fun, it was full steam ahead. I can guarantee their windows were all fogged up.

Cowgirls Don't Cry is a book I can easily recommend to anyone. Yep, there's a bunch of hot sex, but nothing I think the typical romance reader would flinch at. Blush maybe. But not flinch. It's got wonderfully sculpted pacing, well-developed characters with raw and realistic edges, and a number of plot lines that will make you tear up and then cheer. Enjoy!

There is something said for second chances. I liked that this book took a sad story and turned into something happy and worthy. I was kind of saddened by Jessie and her life with Luke but I have to admired Brandt for taking up his brother's slack and proving that not all McKay's are attached to that family "reputation".

Also I would have like they could have Luke's son closer to them. It really shocked me what his mother told Jessie. It was kind of crazy to do that, but I think in that time and age and with her parents religious stance it was inevitable.

I love this story because it shows us that ever though blood runs thicker that water it doesn't have the same effect on members of the same family. We all are unique!

This series is absolutely fantastic. I've never disappointed with ANYTHING she has written! There are 16 books in all in the Rough Rider Series starting with the Long Hard Ride and ending with Cowboy Take Me Away. If you've never read anything by Lorelei James you really should. You have no idea what you're missing.

Brandt *Sighs* How could you not fall in love with this McKay? He was the first to noticed Jessie at a bar, but when he pointed her out to his brother Luke, Brandt was left n the background. While Luke may have been a good brother, he sucked as a husband. When he died Brandt tried to step up to help Luke's widow Jessie.

And then he found out that Luke had not only stepped out on his marriage but a baby that was born after he died. When the baby's mother needed help to straighten out her life she asked Brandt to watch him. Brandt needing help and not wanting the baby to be influenced or live with his father Casper he turns to the only one he thinks that can help him. Jessie. While I cussed Brandt out for putting this on her, I was happy that she saw Brandt for a man and invited.. or demanded him in her bed.

Brandt is my favorite, (Right after Cam) I have read each of the Rough Rider series 2, some of them a few more times then that. I recommend this series to anyone that loves hot cowboys, strong women and lots of hot sex!

When Jessie McKay’s husband Luke dies, she believes she’s free and clear of her misery. But when his brother Brandt shows up on her doorstep with a young boy Luke fathered during one of his affairs, her first reaction is to tell him to go fly a kite. She finally surrenders and agrees to help him care for the toddler. To facilitate their arrangement, they decide to live together until the boy’s mother comes to reclaim him. They become lovers; a situation that Jess also says will come to an end at the same time. They didn’t count on their families accepting them as a couple, everyone that is except Brandt’s father, who causes nothing but misery. He threatens to strip Brandt of the lands where he runs cattle because his father owns the ranch land. As Jessie and Brandt fall in love, will that love be strong enough to triumph over the roadblocks put in their way?

Ms. James keeps her series fresh and exhilarating as the tenth book explores the McKay family dynamics as well as the emotional growth of Jessie and Brandt. There’s fiery sex, a great story, and plenty of McKays roaming around to keep you entertained. I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a great read that’s titillating and entertaining. It can be read as a standalone, but should entice you to read the rest of this wonderful series.

Jessie McKay widow wants nothing to do with McKay men period esp

Jessie McKay widow wants nothing to do with McKay men period especially since her husband Luke couldn't be bothered to stay in her bed. Brandt McKay has loved Jessie since he first laid eyes on her four years ago and no other woman can compare in his eyes. Brandt is furious with Luke over his infidelity even more so now that there is proof of it~a son. Brandt gets temporary guardianship of Landon and knows that he needs help taking care of him. So Brandt goes to the only person who can help him Jessie. Brandt knows that Jessie will be immeasurably hurt by this news but also knows that Jessie's heart is big enough to care for Landon. Once Jessie gets over the shock of seeing Landon agrees to Brandt's arrangement. Landon worms his way into Jessie's heart in ways she hadn't thought possible but he's not the only one that does. Brandt would give anything to prove that he's nothing like Luke to Jessie. Will Jessie allow Brandt into her heart? Will Brandt admit his true feelings? What will become of Landon? Your answers await you in Cowgirls Don't Cry.

Jessie McKay has spent all the tears she'll ever cry over Luke McKay or so she thought until meeting Landon. I admire Jessie's courage in the face of meeting Luke's son and her commitment in taking care of him anyway. I wondered how this story would work out since learning of Luke McKay's death in previous books. Brandt McKay is an alpha male with gentle soul and gentlemanly ways. He hides darker side of himself from everyone because he fears losing control. Rough Riders Series keeps getting better and better with each book. I look forward to my next adventure in this series.

    4.5 stars.

How refreshing to read a romance novel with a non-abusive, non-jerky, super supportive male lead. I am so tired of reading romance novels where I'm supposed to fall in love with a male character that hits or berates the woman that he's after. It's a disturbing trend in literature lately, most specifically in straight romance stories. So it was a breath of much needed fresh air to read this excellent book by Lorelei James. Not only does she know how to write a compelling story, but she knows how to add the right amount of really hot sex scenes. I love Brandt and Jessie together and couldn't wait for them to be happy because they definitely deserve it. Also, I love how Jessie learns how to be herself after Luke is gone. She is not the same person from the beginning of the novel when the story ends. Brandt definitely helps her, but he isn't the main reason for her transformation. I wish there were more books like this! So much better than those other books that will not be named.

I'd definitely write more in this review if it weren't for the pain in my right hand. Anyway, this is a must read for all romance and erotica fans, as well as people who love a damn good story.
