Barnes & Noble - Wendy Mitchell
As you might expect from a movie about the infamous New York watering hole where barmaids enthusiastically shake their leather-clad booties on top of the bar, there's nothing sedate about the Coyote Ugly soundtrack. Even rising country diva LeAnn Rimes gets her groove on -- in addition to her cameo in the film, she contributes four new songs to the album. While all four tracks were penned by ballad master Diane Warren, two of Rimes's songs -- the ultra-catchy "Can't Fight the Moonlight" and "The Right Kind of Wrong" -- show little LeAnn moving, very successfully, into more upbeat dance territory.
Maintaining the groove are a few oldies to inspire your own bar-dancing or at least some kitchen-counter shimmying, notably the Charlie Daniels Band classic "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and Don Henley's "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," and two dance-pop classics, EMF's pub favorite "Unbelievable" and Snap's diva-fueled "The Power." Unfortunately, the party stops about three songs short -- plan to skip the buzz-kill ending of the last three tracks from Rare Groove, Tamara Walker, and Mary Griffin. But the first two-thirds of Coyote Ugly will have you kicking up your cowboy boots, even if you're nowhere near the bar.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Much like the film itself, the soundtrack to the sexy-barmaids-with-hearts-of-gold dramedy Coyote Ugly is an incongruous mix of glitz, sleaze, and naïveté. The bar's surprisingly dated jukebox staples include Don Henley's "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," EMF's "Unbelievable," Snap!'s "The Power" and INXS' "Need You Tonight"; strangely enough, the album doesn't include Blondie's "One Way or Another," which plays a key role in helping struggling singer/songwriter Violet (Piper Perabo) overcome her stage fright. Violet's own songs -- as penned by Diane Warren and performed by LeAnn Rimes -- have a more contemporary feel, borrowing the personas of a wide variety of young female artists. As Violet emerges from her shell, her songs evolve from the demure, Jewel-esque love song "But I Do Love You" to "The Right Kind of Wrong" -- a sassy modern rock song à la Alanis Morissette -- to the positively Britney Spearsian power ballad "Can't Fight the Moonlight." Problem is, the soundtrack's original songs don't mix especially well with the better-known pop songs. However, this probably won't bother the film's, and album's, target audience; the soundtrack's jumbled yet enjoyable mix of pop clichés mirrors the feel of the film perfectly.

    Coyota Ugly Was The Best

A New Jersey girl looking for nothing but to write songs. Leaves home for the big city to make a name for herself. Violet learns that you can do anything if you really want it. She teaches others that friendship is wonderful. When you have friends and family like she did you will win. I loved the movie and have seen four times. I do not mind if others did not like but i loved it. Liz - 50 yrs old - Texas

    Leanne Rimes Kicks

I haven't seen the movie yet but will go soon. I burrowed my friends CD and the music is awesome. I especially like the first song because it doesn't sound like Leanne Rimes at all. I think that this is a must have for everyone.

    Great Sound

I love this soundtrack ! The way it mixes old w/ new is great. Cause me and my Family can all listen to it together, w/o complaints. Leann Rimes's cameo and the movie was cool. I love her sound.
