Overview

For six years Anya Korbin worked with Del-Rey Delgato-the genetically altered rebel known as the Coyote Ghost-to free a group of coyote women kept in her father's lab. As Anya matured into a woman, she and Del-Rey grew close-but then he broke his promise and killed her father. Now she must deal with her animalistic desire for the one who betrayed her.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

When she agrees to help the captive female coyote "breeds" escape from her father's Russian lab, Anya Kobrin thinks she can trust Del-Rey Delgado. Yet he betrays her; they end up caught in the mating heat, and their problems become more difficult and their relationship much more complicated. Links to earlier "Breed" books are apparent in this intense, action-packed adventure that features a pair of fiery, conflicted protagonists and a tense mystery. The unvarnished language of erotica and an emphasis on sex place this novel firmly in the erotic, rather than the merely supersexy, romance camp. This is the latest in Leigh's (Mercury's War) popular "Breeds" series, and fans will be waiting. Leigh lives in Kentucky.

    Coyote's Mate by Lora Leigh

Lora Leigh's latest Breed book will singe your fingers and leave you begging for the next story set in her world of hybrid human-animals and the women (and men) they love. "Coyote's Mate" gives readers their first deep look at the Coyote breeds and their similarities and differences from the other Breed groups.

Del-Ray is the Coyote Alpha who survived hell, refused to bend to his human 'creators', and fought his way to freedom taking as many of his kind with him as he could manage. When a young sixteen year old human approaches him with information on a Council coyote lab, he's intrigued by her fire and lack of fear. For six years, he and the human work together to weed out traitors and plot a careful raid and Del-Ray becomes enamored and finally possessive of his human. But when he injures her family in the raid and becomes lost to the mating heat, she turns her back on everything he offers.

Anya is in love with Del-Ray and has been for several years now. But when she realizes he's been lying to her for six years, she's beyond furious...and hurt. Then the mating heat ambushes both of them and her virginity is lost in the fierce haze of mating lust and she panics. Once her fears subside, she quickly realizes there's nothing she won't do to keep her coyote safe...even if that means breaking his trust in her.

Anya intrigued and infuriated me (a lot like she did Del-Ray!) through most of this book. But she does manage to 'put on her big girl panties' and begin acting like a woman and not a child a little less than halfway through the book. Del-Ray is typical of the Alpha breeds, arrogant and clueless about humans...especially human women. Which means that he manages to do just about everything wrong! But it certainly makes for a smoking story.

Seriously hot Alpha coyote sex, murder plots, hilarious 'women things' discussions, and a wonderful happily ever after. If you like Lora Leigh, don't miss this one. If you haven't read her yet...you really don't know what you're missing!

LOVED THIS BOOK! The best in the Breeds series!

I've read 3 other novels in the Breeds series and although I enjoyed them, especially "Mercury's War," I wasn't expecting to love "Coyote's Mate," as much as I did. It's not an easy love story. Anya and Del-Rey fight. A lot. They drive each other crazy. He's not, initially, the man she needs him to be, but Lora Leigh constructed this story in such a way that you get to know these two characters and really care about who and how they are-- to themselves and to each other. I got wrapped up so thoroughly in their story that... yes, I cried. I can't remember the last time that happened while I was reading a romance novel! Lora Leigh definitely hit this one out of the ball park.

    coyote's mate/ lora leigh

Okies folks, this is the lastest in the breed series and lora didnt let us down. Folks she has hit another out of the ball park. Smooth, sensual, makes you want to sit next to a fire, with a glass of wine, a box of godiva, and float away.
Not going to tell you the plot.. you can see that above. I will say .. IT is a MUST read... oh yum

Great author and series, Lora Leigh never lets me down.

This was a turn for the series that shows the humanity of the coyotes. Until now she has done plenty on wolves and lions and always portrayed the coyotes as the bad guys. In this book she shows how they are real indviduals and worth getting to know. This series has been going on for years and has many books and there is still room for more, the world keeps growing and expanding and shows strong humans and others, and also strong heros and heroines. I hope coyotes get more attention now, they are worth it.

    Coyote's Mate

This book was wonderful as a stand alone novel. However, it added depth to the ongoing series. Del-Ray is an Alpha Coyote who thinks he knows everything. He has met his match in Anya Kobrin an intelligent human who would do anything for her friends who are also of the Coyote breeds. He makes huge mistakes in tying to make her his mate. It is a wonder she does not hit him upside the head. He lives by the saying hard head soft behind. There is also lots of danger and intrigue and the descriptions of the secondary characters come to life. Ms. Leigh does a tremendous job with this book.

Lora Leigh has done it again!!!

I didn't mean to like the Breed Series. I really didn't. But I am addicted and it has been great!! Every one is better than the one before and this one is great. I love the characters. The storyline had me guessing to the end, who the bad guy was. Lora Leigh has never let me down. I loved it!

    Really Fun Book to Read

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were funny and the dialog was witty. Good paranormal romance. You will need to read her other works in order so that you know who the characters are that are in the book however

Not Lora's best in her breed series

The plot is good but all over the place. The characters are typical. Same eroticism which is good. Unfortunately, Lora's writing in this story is everywhere - did Lora write this or someone else did? I skipped many pages in between because the plot is predictable and oftern confusing enough that it did not warrant my time to digestion the information.

    Loved It!!

Lora Leigh hooked me from day one with the Breed series and she hasn't failed with this one. After reading the excerpt for it in the last book, I was excited to read this one as well. I wasn't disappointed. Del-Ray is such an anti-hero. His take charge, no excuses personality was spot on. I got realy annoyed at some points with him, but then, that was the point. Anya was the perfect match, her strength and vulnerabilty combined to make her just the right person to complement Del-Ray. Their quest to love and trust each other was sad at some points and frustrating at others, but they worked it out in the end and that's what mattered. I highly recommend this book for any fan of paranormal and erotica. Ms. Leigh's writing style and character's are what draws me back again and again.

    Great!

I really enjoyed this book. In my opinion, its the best written book of her breed series. Kept me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. Loved this one, can't wait for the next! Also had a excerpt for her next breed book (Bengal Cabal & reporter Cassa).

    Great sf romance

She has waited patiently for years for the right moment to rescue her Coyote Breed incarcerated in her father¿s Russian lab. Now after six anxious years fearing she will be caught for her seditious activity, Del-Rey ¿the Coyote Ghost¿ Delgado informs Anya Koran the time to set their final rescue plan in motion has arrived. She asks him one favor; not to kill her dad when they liberate the female specimens; he agrees.

During the raid, Del-Rey shoots and kills Anaya¿s father; he escorts her and the other Coyote Breed to the Sanctuary compound. While Anya remains irate with him for killing her father, mating heat assaults both of them. However, as his soulmate rejects him though her body betrays her by craving his touch; a traitor within the compound places everyone especially the newcomers in danger.

The latest Lora Leigh's homage to the X-Men (see DAWN¿S AWAKENING, MEGAN'S MARK and HARMONY'S WAY, etc.) stars a great lead pairing who appear destined to remain apart in spite of mating heat uniting them. Anya cannot forgive Del-Rey for killing her father though she knows his other choice was a failed mission with many of the rescued dead and the rest imprisoned. Once again the bioengineered breeds seem genuine and the romance between the Alpha and his Coya enjoyable to follow. Although the betrayal seems somewhat similar in tone to MERCURY'S WAR, fans of the saga will enjoy the latest science fiction romantic suspense as the hatred and prejudice the Breed encounter would make Magneto believe humans love him and his mutants.
