I just took and passed CBEST, and Cracking the CBEST was a huge help. The practice tests were written at the level of CBEST and in exactly the same format as the real test. The reading and math skills review sections provide practical and useful hints on test-taking, and provide just enough information to pass the CBEST easily. I also used the Barron's and Learning Express CBEST review books, but the Princeton Review provided by far and away the most focused and accurate preparation for CBEST. This is the only book you'll need to pass CBEST.

I liked this book a lot. It's an easy read and I like how they explain their answers and how to get there. I wish they had more practice questions within the content pages, but they do have 2 whole practice tests. I would recommend this book.

Easy to use, divides the categories and topics into easy to read and review. Particularly helpful were the sample tests.

Yep. Passed all 3 sections of the CBEST on my first try with high scores thanks to this study guide. Loved the very in-depth review of all of the sections. Forgot how to divide fractions? This book reviews it for you. Forgot how to calculate the probability of rolling two six's on a pair of dice? The book explains it. Forgot the relevant parts of writing a short, concise essay? This book explains and gives you two different outlines to choose from for your essays that will almost guarantee high scores on the writing portion of the actual exam. I loved the book, spent only about 3 weeks studying and easily passed the exam.

This book is an essential tool for anyone planning on taking the CBEST. The practice tests give you the feel of the real thing.

I tried a few of the CBEST prep manuals that are in the market and, compared to the others, this is the best. One thing that is very important is that it is up to date. The test has recently changed in August 2002 and this one has introduced the changes in the prep program. So, go for this one!

The reading section gave me extremely useful tools. Most of the math sections' errors listed by the Stanford employee have been corrected in my edition. The only egregious error that remains is the one on page 83: the divisor is in the wrong place. As it reads now, the answer is 1. "Friday" is still listed as part of the answer explanation on page 126, but this minor typo doesn't affect the answer. I picked up my copy at the local B&N store. The cover is different, so it could be they made corrections in a newer edition. (No edition # is listed that I could find.) Good luck!

I just purchased the book, and went directly to all the 'typos' and 'wrong information', as mentioned in the April 1999 review - all the information mentioned by this reviewer is NOT correct, in other words, it's correct in the book. It's important to read carefully, which this book assists you with, especially if you tackle the book from page one through to the end (which the reviewer may not have done?). I'm only on page 33, and I've had great insights. I'll send in another review when I've passed the CBEST - which I expect to do the first time around, thanks to the help of this book.

This book will tell you everything you need to know to pass the CBEST. From the thorough review of each subject (for the purposes of passing the test) to the test taking strategies you will learn, this book is the best. Don't consider Barron's.
