All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
With its urgent hooks and surging sincerity, cradlesong is recognizably Thomas, but he's tweaked the formula of his 2005 solo debut, Something to Be, in judicious ways, using his worldbeat inflections as an underpinning instead of flair, something that ties the album together. cradlesong is big music about big issues, even inflating personal issues to the universal. If it seems somewhat out of step with its year, that almost makes Thomas' somber, determined craft admirable: he's doing this not because it'll give him a hit, but because he believes in it.

    Once Again....

Once again Thomas wows with his vocal strength and knack for writing hard hitting lyrics. Thomas takes a lot of flack from critics, mainly for his refusal to conform to the hit making ways of the day, but a more original character isn't to be found among today's musicians. What would happen if you took the average chart topping musician today and took away all of the 'electronic' help they get on vocals (synthesizers, etc.)? You would be left with few who could stand on their own two feet. Not to mention that virtually none of today's chart toppers write their own material. Sadly we live in a world of mediocre talent. Gone are the days of groups that played their own music (instruments), wrote their own music, and sounded just as good live as when recorded. Thomas achieved that from the beginning with Matchbox Twenty and continues onward with vigor during his solo endeavor.

    Wonderful ! ! !

I waited 2 months for this to come out and it is was well worth the wait. I believe that almost every song on the album could be a hit. I am very glad to have some new song for Rob. He has written all the songs on this and has done a wonderful job. So get Cradlesongs, you will not reget getting it.

    A great new sound!

I love Rob Thomas' voice, I love his band on this new cd, and I especially love the new sound and arraingements on here. I listened to this cd 3 times in a row while driving a long distance, and enjoyed each song like it was new. That is what is so different about Rob Thomas. He has a very similar cadance to his music, but this cd throws in some great new drums, and his lyrics are so interesting. I highly recommend this new cd to anyone, and I am going to get a couple more to give to some family members, because I am not sharing!

    Rob Thomas

Rob Thomas proves again that he knows exactly how to write a pop tune that will get stuck in your head. While there isn't one song that really stands out and makes this album one that you absolutely need to own, it is full of hooks you'll be singing along with when you listen. Each song is well-crafted and enjoyable so I would recommend owning the album as part of your music collection if you are a fan of Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas. My personal favorites are Her Diamonds, Natural and Snowblind because of the way Thomas paints a mental picture with his clever lyrics.

    I love this CD!

I am not a fan of Rob Thomas as an person; I have read interviews that, if accurate, show him to be immature and vulgur. However, this CD is fantastic. I enjoyed every song on it. They have unsual beats and rhythms that make me pay attention--they don't become background noise. The music is still soothing and relaxing, though--the perfect CD to play in the car on the way home after a rough day at work.
