Overview

It started with a pillowcase dress…and grew into a worldwide movement: crafters using their passion to help those in need. The Craft Hope blog-which organizes crafters to make handmade items for charities-has attracted followers around the world. This book, written by the site's founder and featuring crafting's hottest start, celebrates the cause and encourages others to join in.
Each project is matched with a specific charity, with alternative suggestions for local places to contribute the item. The projects-all with beautiful photographs, step-by-step instructions, and templates-include: cheerful quilts for hospitalized children, soft dolls for Nicaraguan orphans, tug toys for animal shelters, knit gloves for homeless shelters, a cloth backpack for schoolchildren in Africa, a stylish purse for women moving out of abusive relationships, and knit scarves for fostercare teens heading off to college. Contributors range from fabric designers Amy Butler and Heather Bailey to popular authors and bloggers such as Amanda Soule (www.soulemama.com, Handmade Home), Karri Meng (French General), Amy Ray (Doodle Stitching), Celine Dupuy (Simple Sewing with a French Twist), Vickie Howell (Craft Corps), Cathie Filian (Creative Juice), Susan Wasinger (Eco Crafts), and Betsy Greer (Knitting for Good).
In addition, there are plenty of helpful tips on how to give locally and globally, how to give thoughtfully and appropriately, and how to empower those you are helping.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Craft Hope blog started with a cute pillowcase dress and an overflowing bushel of charitable impulse. The purpose of the website couldn't have been more straightforward: organize crafters to make handmade items for those less fortunate than ourselves. This goodwill umbrella covered the world; homeless families huddled under bridges; survivors of African wars and Haitian earthquakes; human and wildlife victims of the Gulf Oil Spill. Craft Hope the book isn't just a handout: It's an assemblage of step-by-step instructions for dozens of cute, attractive projects. (Hand-selling tip: Point out the cover promise that one dollar from the purchase of this craft will be donated to Global Impact.)

    A Beautiful Book!

I love everything about this book! I love all the projects and I really appreciated reading about the various charities that need them. The projects are all so great that I want to make them both to give to the charities and to keep and give to friends and family as gifts. It's a book that's both beautiful and moving and practical. I bought mine at the bookstore, but I'm online buying three more copies for friends right now!

    Amazing!!!

Wow!!! This book is a must have! There are so many quality projects by well known people. But what makes this book unique is that each craft is paired with a charity. The very craft you make can be used to help someone in need. I can't wait to get started!!! This book is a one of a kind! I highly recommend this book!!!

    Giving through Crafting

I am thrilled that National Tie One On Day is listed in Craft Hope as an apron recipient (pg 26)! While National Tie One On Day puts the "give back into Thanksgiving," Craft Hope is heartfelt-giving through crafting, and we have Jade Sims to thank for translating her personal crusade into one that is now worldwide. The global crafting movement that Jade facilitates is inspirational, and that she does this from her home, with snippets of time carved from a busy day with her wee family, is amazing. Craft Hope is artfully presented, but more importantly to me, is the ease of the instruction accompanying each craft.

Even if you aren't moved to participate in Craft Hope through crafting, you give by purchasing this book - $1.00 from its sale is donated to Global Impact. Such is the win-win of Craft Hope.

    Meaningful AND Beautiful!

What a beautiful book! Jade Sims and the many talented designers featured in "Craft Hope" have done a magnificent job of joining the incredible online crafting community with meaningful ways to put our creativity to good use. Thank you, Jade! I'm so excited to get started on these projects, and I look forward to gathering a group of crafty friends together so we can contribute to your next Craft Hope project!
