I received this book as a gift in 1995 and still reference it today. I am NOT a cook in any way and this book is easy to grab and find what I need to know, i.e., how to boil and egg. What exactly does 'sear' mean and how? I recommend it for anyone wanting to learn the basics in a very easy to read format.

The perfect book for a beginner cook (in my case a beginner-for-life). It doesn't overwhelm you with recipes, but gives you one very good recipe for each of the basics. (For example, how to make an excellent roast chicken) I've been using it for twenty years, and its a bit beat up, so I'm buying a new one today. It's a good gift for a young person just out on their ownWas this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
