Children's Literature - Lisa Colozza Cocca
What a crane is, what parts is it made up of, and how cranes work is explained in this title. The author includes information about a number of specialty cranes including, but not limited to, truck cranes, crawler cranes, floating cranes, railroad cranes, and sky cranes. There is even a section on the world's strongest crane, which is located in China. Each section explains how and where the specialty crane is used. A multitude of full-color photographs accompany the text and many of the captions add new facts about the machines. A title in the nonfiction "Vehicles on the Move" series, this book includes the features found throughout the series, including a glossary, an index, and a table of contents. This book is sure to appeal to elementary aged boys in particular and would be a useful supplement to a science unit on simple machines and pulleys. Reviewer: Lisa Colozza Cocca
