Overview

Written by experts in the field, this beautifully illustrated text/atlas provides the tools you need to directly visualize and interpret cranial CT and MR images. It reviews with exacting detail the normal anatomic brain structures identified on sagittal, coronal, and axial imaging planes. Use this book to make accurate and complete neurological assessments at the earliest possible stages - before reaching the sectioning or operating table.

This revised and expanded third edition contains nearly 600 illustrations - most in color - that provide graphic representations of brain structures, arteries, arterial territories, veins, nerves and neurofunctional systems. The illustrations depict anatomic structures in shades of gray similar to the way they are seen in CT and MR images.

Highlights of the third edition:

  • Content and illustrations expanded by more than 20%
  • High resolution T1 and T2 weighted MR images
  • Improved anatomic terminology for more accurate descriptions of findings

Clinically relevant, easily readable, and clearly organized, this well-illustrated book is an essential introduction to the field for medical students and residents in neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and radiology. Practicing specialists will also benefit from this practical day-to-day tool.

This book contains predominantly color illustrations, with some black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

'A richly illustrated state-of-the-art work in neuroanatomy...a practical and instructive diagnostic tool.' -- Surgical and Radiologic AnatomyPraise of earlier editions:'. . .the authors are to be commended for providing such a large amount of information in such a clearly organized and well-illustrated fashion. I highly recommend this book to all radiologists who interpret cross-sectional images of the brain.' --American Journal of Neuroradiology'This creatively-illustrated atlas and text. . .is full of useful material and would be an excellent addition to a neuroradiology library.' --Radiology'An excellent textbook of practical anatomy. . .a valuable reference for studying neuroanatomy. . .this text should be found in department libraries in these fields [of radiology, neuroradiology, neurology, and neurosurgery]. . .This beautifully drawn text is an excellent introduction of multiplanar neuroanatomy.' --American Journal of Roentenology

This book provides a topographical description of CT scan and MRI three-dimensional imaging, with little emphasis on functional neuroanatomy and neurochemistry. The purpose of the book is to provide illustrative neuroimaging with correlative neuroanatomical and functional sections. It is difficult to understand three-dimensional views because some sections are done in a separate and simple way. In addition there are illustrations on PET and neurotransmitters. The book is written for in-training personnel in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology. In addition, interested medical students and others may benefit. The illustrations are self-explanatory and are of good quality to fulfill the purpose of the book. The references, index, and table of contents are well organized. The book is attractive, includes many colored figures, and is easy to read. The book provides a handy, well-illustrated review of anatomical and functional imaging of the cranium. This second edition is needed to include the recent advances in imaging technology. Learning this material supplies the essential basic information to interested personnel in the neuroscience field.

A revised translation of the 2nd German edition published in 1991 (the 1st English edition, published in 1986, was titled Neuroanatomy and Cranial Computed Tomography), this extensively and brilliantly illustrated practical text-atlas reviews in detail the normal neuroanatomic features that are identified on standard computed tomograms (CT) and magnetic resonance scans (MR). The authors utilize line drawings and tracings of various CT and MR scans in addition to including appropriate MR scan images to correlate with the illustrations, making the normal anatomy more easily identifiable. In addition to the use of MR images, there are also a number of illustrations that are correlated with radiographs of thin sections of the plain skull. An extensive discussion is provided on the neuroanatomy and on a variety of common neurologic diseases and syndromes that can be identified through clinical evaluation and CT and MR correlation.
