    Terrific for the Car

    Purchased for my son (2 when first purchased; now 3), this CD/book is a fantastic addition to our car library. Whether a short jaunt to the grocery store or cross-country driving, the stories have kept him entertained. He asks for them to be replayed multiple times, he recites them in the house, and he even takes the books with him into restaurants or the doctor's office.

    Narrated by Alec Baldwin, this particular set is even more enjoyable than the other collections. He uses different tones and accents, and inflects in all the right spots. (In contrast, there is a set read by Ringo Starr that is boring to the point of tears because he reads each story in such a monotonous manner.)

    There are two drawbacks of this set for us. The first is that you cannot skip or go back because the stories have been recorded in one continuous flow (as opposed to "Hooray for Thomas," whose 3 stories were recorded as separate tracks), so your child (and you) will have to sit through each story in succession to get to the one he/she wants. The second drawback for us is that there are some language and tones that are unfriendly and mean in some of the stories, which is something we discourage/avoid in rearing our son.

    Fabulous for car rides!

    We listen to this on the drive to/from school. It keeps the kids entertained with the great narrator and familiar stories.
