Crazy Diamond is the first biography of Syd Barrett, the legendary founder of Pink Floyd whose all too brief flash of erratic brilliance continues to inspire and influence rock musicians throughout the world.
Once considered the undisputed leader of Pink Floyd, Barrett left the group in mysterious circumstances after writing and singing their two early hit singles and most of their first album. While stories of his acid-induced madness began to circulate, he made two solo albums which became cult classics. Shortly after their release in 1970, he retired from music.
What happened to Barrett has been a source of constant speculation ever since, and the recent release of a third 'solo' album culled from early unreleased material has heightened interest in this reclusive genius.
Crazy Diamond draws on years of research and numerous original interviews with Barrett's family and associates to relate one of the strangest stories in rock's thirty year history.
Illustrated with many rare and previously unpublished pictures of Barrett, his family and the early Pink Floyd, and including a full discography, and a foreword by Julian Cope.
