Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up-Guttmacher describes the life, times, character, and actions of the Oglala leader. His prose, while scholarly and authoritative in tone, is uncluttered with footnotes and similar impediments, making his meaning clear and accessible to YAs. Good-quality black-and-white period photographs, relevant paintings, and reproductions appear throughout. Mari Sandoz's Crazy Horse (Univ. of Nebraska, 1992) remains a classic biography. It is, however, detailed, long, and colored by some fictionalizing. Guttmacher's volume complements existing materials on this legendary warrior.-George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield
