Overview

It's time. International best-selling author, Lynda Weinman, circles back to update this HTML guide and to add her unique creative energy and wisdom to The first edition is best known for its unique quality of combining solid design with coding technique and HTML theory. This second edition will incorporate the significant changes in Web tools and technology since this original edition published in December 1997. Updated content includes coverage of Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, GoLive! and more! In standard Lynda Weinman style, you will find easy reading, straightforward talk - practical "how to's" that reads like you expect her to talk — with just the right amount of coding and technical coverage to provide you with a solid HTML guide.

Step-by-step lesson plan to learning HTML 4 and Web design, walking the reader through building a real working Web site especially created for use with the text. The CD-ROM offers all of the necessary files for the tutorials in the text, and JavaScript rollover code and other useful scripts. System requirements not listed.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Some otherwise excellent web design books are woefully weak on HTML. Some good HTML books are clueless about building sites anyone would want to visit. Here's a book which is equally good on the coding and the design.

In Creative HTML Design.2, legendary web design guru Lynda Weinman is joined by her programmer brother, William (whose previous credits include The CGI Book). Think of them as right-brain and left-brain: Together, they offer a holistic view of HTML-based design that's been all too rare. For instance, don't just learn how to code a table to stitch irregular parts of a graphic together: you learn how to make the graphic (typically, in Photoshop and/or ImageReady, though you can get away with The Gimp if need be). Ditto for rollovers: You get the design guidance you need to build welcoming, usable rollover graphics at the same time you're learning the JavaScript that makes them work.

The book is organized around the process of designing an entire site: concept, then planning, collecting your assets, structuring your site's files, producing graphics and layouts, writing code, HTML editing, scripting, and finally, publishing. All the graphics and code you need to build the Weinmans' sample site are provided on CD-ROM, including nifty custom JavaScript and CGI scripts for rollovers and forms. Of course, you needn't build the sample site. Just refer to tasks as you need them, or browse through the book's terrific tips, notes, and (especially) web-based resource links. (Bill Camarda)

Bill Camarda is a consultant and writer with nearly 20 years' experience in helping technology companies deploy and market advanced software, computing, and networking products and services. His 15 books include Special Edition Using Word 2000 and Upgrading & Fixing Networks For Dummies®, Second Edition.
