Editorial Reviews

Offers a number of hints for the beginning writer on how to improve style, content, character development, and other aspects of writing for television, film, novels, or other media. Hints are offered in short treatments and offer such advice as trying to write badly as a stretching exercise, and recognizing types of story transformation such as when the main character learns the lesson of the theme. Making money off our misery

The most this book helped me was when I used it to fix a wobbly table. Other than that, it¿s full of useless exercises that do not offer anything new. For instance, there is a whole section on ¿good writing¿ which says that ¿all writing is good writing.¿ I learned that in 3rd grade. The entire chapter is dedicated to bringing that idea home, not really selling the idea, just repeating it. In between paragraphs there are huge blank areas where the reader is supposed to write in his/her own answers to the meaningless questions. The 271 pages might have been 150 pages if it weren¿t for the blank spots (my table went off balance when I took the book out to see the page amount). I can¿t believe the writer got away with teaching. This book was written by a writer with no clue about how to teach writing and the motivation to make money.
