Overview

What if your darkest sins materialized, seeking your annihilation? And what if your only salvation was to accept the touch of forgiveness from someone who could then claim your soul?

This is the terrifying power Reverend Zachary Bright has over the townspeople of Silver Springs, Washington.

In CRESCENT LAKE, Nick Murphy, a mob informant trying to atone for his crimes - and his role in a tragic accident that killed his wife and daughter - is placed into a witness-relocation program and sent to a small, scenic town believed to be the perfect hideout. But from his first day in Silver Springs, he finds himself in a different kind of life-and-death struggle, one where his past sins have come back to haunt him. He and FBI agent Audrey Harper are quickly caught up in supernatural events and bizarre miracles, and must contend with a town besieged by religious fanaticism – and an enemy that can raise the dead.

And while a ruthless mob assassin closes in on Nick's location, Reverend Bright plans to expand his dark ministry across the country. Nick and Audrey must overcome their own dredged-up sins, and then rally the few residents that have somehow resisted the Reverend’s influence. They will make a last stand against the whole town; but first, they must confront what rests at the bottom of the nearby lake - the source of the Reverend's unholy power.

Editorial Reviews

Steven Savile
“In this chilling, Shirley Jackson-esque descent into a small-town beset by religious fanaticism, Sakmyster has assembled one hell of a cast of characters, each plagued by their all-too-real demons, and seeking redemption from the one man that can in turn enslave their soul
Willie Meikle
"Reminded me of King's THE STAND for all the right reasons: salvation, redemption, but best of all, an old school horror story, well told."

A taut and gripping dark thriller

Taut and menacing, Crescent Lake crackles with the righteous fury of Reverend Bright and his warped mania and bubbles to the underlying themes of redemption and forgiveness carried by all the central characters of the story.

Hidden away in backwoods Washington State, Silver Springs harbours a dark secret kept quiet by the higher authorities for nearly half a century, a secret that has radically altered some of the towns denizens: the obsessive zeal of Reverend Bright, the quiet, troubled guardian Librarian, a little girl called Theresa and the down to earth Sheriff, Stan.

Set against this is the fugitive Nick, an informant on the run from the shadowy business partner of his Aunt, a respected Senator, and his murderous henchman Lloyd. Helped only by his assigned FBI agent, Audrey, who has her own troubled past, Nick must survive in Silver Springs until he can give evidence.

What actually plays out is a grim fight for sanity in Silver Springs, as events conspire to give Reverend Bright the power he needs to complete his subjugation of the town into his mindless drones, and to plan the spread of his message nationwide.
As the action builds and the truth of Crescent Lake comes out, Nick, Audrey and those on his side must battle the dark forces of the Reverend and prevent the madness escaping. Their very pasts will be dragged out as the Reverent attempts to shatter their souls.

With a host of troubled and devious characters, tense action, a dose of violence and more than a pinch of lunacy - Crescent Lake is a wonderfully crafted Dark Tale.
