I buy every book by C.L. Bevill as soon as I find a new one. I was a little disappointed in this one. The first part of the book just didn't feel like a Bevill book. It was too....prissy? I'm having a hard time finding the right word. Maybe...trying too hard to be "real" literature. I almost stopped when I read about "the birds calling one to another". A full paragraph naming trees. This type of writing is why I stopped reading Koontz. However, that style of writing soon faded into the perfect Bevill voice that I enjoy so much. The rest of the book did not disappoint in any way. 300+ pgs. So here I sit eagerly waiting for the next book. Caren, can you please write faster? You can eat/ drink while writing and sleep is overated. I will continue to buy every book this very talented author publishes.

I am a big C.L. Bevill fan. She has written some of the funniest books, some of the most romantic, and some of the most thought provoking books I have ever read. This murder mystery is really as introspective as it is entertaining. A fascinating look into a way of life hundreds of years in the making. Thank you for your courage in writing Crimson Bayou.

It was a good read. Nice mystery with a few twists. I really like Ms. Bevill's writing but I did get a little tired of Mignon not trusting the police and working with them. It became unrealistic with her going around the police. I would have liked to see her working with John and trusting especially after reading the 1st book..

Great book. I loved the mystery. It was difficult to put this story down. It was intersting that Mignon guessed who didn't do it, while not knowing who did. I also liked the fact that she found out a little bit about where she came from along the way. Ineed to back track and read Bayou Moon. I'm sure it will be as good as the rest of Ms. Belvill's books.

This book is interesting, exciting, and has many surprises. I have been to Louisianna, therefore I enjoyed that the story takes place around a bayou.

What a great read! Mignon Thibeaux is a savvy, intelligent, creative soul who has great insight into those around her. John Henry is a perfect foil for this sassy, yet lonely woman. I do recommend reading the first book, Bayou Moon, before diving into this one, as it will explain why the characters interact as they do in the this book. Even tho' these books are in the science fiction category, there isn't really much in the way of paranormal experiences, unless you count the way the author describes Mignon's artistic abilities. This is a great 'who dun-it' murder mystery, with a story line that lives and breathes. It explores the world of discrimination that existed within creole society with delicacy and tact and makes one think about how society as a whole sometimes wears a very thin veneer of civility.
