A DANGEROUS PAIR
“I’m not what you think,” Dain said. “I’m not a good man.”
“You wouldn’t be here if you were,” Fleur answered, her voice thick with emotion. “Neither would I.” Her eyes shone an intense blue that seemed to penetrate his soul. Dain imagined he saw love in their depth, but he didn’t dare ask. Not yet. Because he couldn’t be sure of what was to come. And because he had enough emotion for both of them tonight.
“I’m warning you,” he said, stalking her and pulling the jeweled combs from her hair. He crowded up to her. “I’m warning you.”
“No more warnings,” she barely had time to say. He pushed her down on the bed.

Book 1 in the Crimson City Series

If you like girls that can defend themselves, vampires (basically good), werewolves (also good), and action set in the future of what used to be L.A. you will like this book. This series is written by different authors. Two (so far) were by Liz Maverick. One book is not included on B&N when you do a search though. Here's the order: 1. Crimson City 2. A Taste of Crimson 3. Through a Crimson Veil, 4. A Darker Crimson, (this one is kind of an oddball and doesn't contain the familiar characters in the others) 5. Seduced by Crimson and 6. Crimson Rogue This series is better if read in order. With the exception of #4, which can be skipped altogether and you won't loose anything in the series. I picked up Crimson Rogue first. It was confusing and I realized there must be a series that I missed. I put it down and started the series, then really enjoyed Crimson Rogue!

    Predictable love story.

Well, It was not a bad vampire action read.Albeit, it was still a huge love story. It was not so much a page turning thriller, but it had its moments.I liked it minus all that sucky love stuff!!!!!

    maverick strikes gold

Silly headline, I know. I just picked up the book and read it all yesterday. Liz is great at action romance novels and she definitely didn't disappoint. Not only was the interaction between the male and female lead great, her use of other characters...setting them up for her fellow authors' future stories (at least I think their stories are going to be told) was extremely well done. It didn't detract any attention away from the main story, but only added different perspectives and histories that made it so much more interesting to read. Two thumbs up!

    A great read!!

This book really caught my attention. After I read through it, the movie Underworld (which I love!) kept flashing in my head. I loved how it brought ALL the species together in the story, humans, vamps, and weres. This is definitely not a money waster. Can't wait for the next installment!

exhilarating opening paranormal romantic suspense thriller

She made a youthful error that cost her future; her two half-brothers taking over instead. When an explosion rocked that sector killing her two vampiric siblings, vampire Fleur Dumont vows to learn the truth because she knows that she should have been her left dead. --- B-Ops humans Dain Reston worries that the peace amongst the three dominant sentient species has been blown part with that blast shattering the uneasy peace in which the vampires owns the skies; the humans the earth; and the werewolves the underground. While Fleur continues her quest, Dain tries to keep war from happening. Their objectives soon merge as the human and the vampire run from their hunger for one another, but combine their resources to attempt to uncover the identity of the soulless one who devastated the fragile calm. --- CRIMSON CITY is the exhilarating opening paranormal romantic suspense thriller that will have the audience on the edge of their seat wondering if the star-crossed heroes can avert a cross-species war. The story line is action-packed, but the key to the tale is Liz Maverick¿s ability to insure her prime players seem genuine in a realistic setting. Fans will believe in werewolves and vampires and want more fantasy tales set in the Maverick universe. --- Harriet Klausner

    Crimson City

Los Angeles is now the city of fallen angels. Humans are no longer dominant. Were creatures and vampires run the world in a style reminescent of the mafia. Once, Fleur Dumont was destined to rule her family, but was denied her birthright until tragically, the two brothers who took her place are killed. Now, she finds herself working with a human to stop the forces that killed them. She should not even be friends with Dain, much less feel the way she does about this man. They are meant to be enemies, not lovers. You will want to read this book quickly, for you will be anxious to see how it ends. It has a hard edge and fast pace that will appeal to a broad range of fans. If William Gibson wrote vampire stories, this might be the result.
