Wouldn't it boost your confidence to have an experienced and confident crocheter on call, day and night, offering assistance when needed? Most of us aren't fortunate enough to have that kind of aid, but now there is help available 24/7 with The Crochet Answer Book.

Being a "good" crocheter is not about making perfectly stitched, elaborate, artful creations. It is rather a matter of confidence. You need to be confident in what you are doing and in how to figure out what to do if things aren't going quite right. Understanding why you do certain things and why they turn out the way they do increases confidence and leads to successful crocheting.

This book answers some of the most common questions crocheters have, and anticipates some questions you didn't know you had. The Crochet Answer Book will lead you down the road to gaining the confidence that makes for good crocheting.

"Crochet is just a series of loops." That is easy for the author to say and harder for a beginner to comprehend, but, Eckman's approach to explaining crochet techniques and terms will give even the neophyte a greater confidence while building skills. The drawings are explicit in demonstrating what she is describing in the text—which is essential in an "answer" book. It is easier than it might seem to crochet as long as everything is going along well. It is when an error occurs that it will be handy to have Eckman's book at hand. The really confident crafts person actually knows how to "fix" errors and spot where things have gone astray. This title covers the most common tricky moments and includes some interesting things that might crop up in some patterns. The index is most useful for directing the user to the proper page and illustration for specific situations and general advice. There is an entire section devoted to "Resources" which includes: "Standard Abbreviations," "Common Crochet Terms and Phrases," "Standard Body Measurements and Sizes," "Garment Sizing Guidelines," and "Yarn Care Symbols." Books, web sites, and magazines are listed for quick reference and extended study. My great-aunt taught me to crochet and I would have understood sooner and easier if this book had been available so that I could "see" what she was trying to explain to me. I will turn to this book often as I do still come across pattern problems and other difficulties that are covered in detail in this compactly-sized but extensive-in-coverage book. 2005, Storey, Ages 12 up.

Library Journal
Written by well-known teachers in their fields and formatted as a series of questions that might be asked by crocheters or knitters, these manuals cover materials, techniques, and resources for each craft. They include not only valuable information for the beginner but also answers to questions that even experienced crocheters or knitters may never have seen addressed in print. For example, many books cover the casting-on process in knitting, but Radcliffe answers such specific queries as "What is the best cast-on when you're planning to add fringe to a piece?" and "Is there a more durable cast-on I can use for children's clothes?" In the crochet manual, Eckman includes exceptionally clear explanations for how to count stitches and rows from either side of a crocheted piece. Both books have excellent resource sections that include bibliographies, glossaries, and lists of abbreviations used in pattern books; at these prices, they are ideal for public libraries. I have been crocheting for over 30 years and in such time I have accumulated many many books on the arts of crochet. This book is excellent because I would have to carry around at least 5 of my other books to give me the on hand references that I get from this one little book. I highly recommend The Crochet Answer Book for the new crocheters as well as the experienced.

I waited for someone to review this book, but I gave up and bought the book. So here is my quick review... This is very well illustrated, its simple to read and it Covers everything you'll ever need to know. If you would like to learn little new tricks, this might be the book for you.

I received this book as a Christmas present and was instantly drawn into it. This small book is so packed full of information, that you would need several of some of the crochet books out there to get even near the amount of information that's jammed into it. The size is incredibly convenient and the topics are organized in an intelligent manner. This book has everything from yarn types, to hook sizes, to obscure bits of information that are difficult to find elsewhere. I skimmed this book in the hopes of finding the answer to a question I had about crochet and couldn't find the answer to online no matter how hard I tried. As I flipped the pages, I saw that they actually had an in depth explanation of how to crochet into an established row without a starting chain. In short, this book is mostly all the reference a crocheter needs in a convenient package.

I did pick up several pointers, but not as many as I had hoped. Illustrations were only a few of the steps in a technique, usually the parts I already understood. No pictures of the steps with actual yarn. 126 pages.
