Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Epstein's beloved "Edgings" series (Knitting over the Edge) branches out to crochet with this fourth volume. Starting out with crocheted edges on knitting, Epstein quickly moves on to decorative edgings for crocheted pieces. Like other volumes in the series, the edgings are grouped by stitch family, including ribs and bobbles, ruffles, floral patterns, fringes, and points and scallops. Each pattern is shown in a full-color photograph, described in text, and charted, allowing crocheters to choose the approach that works best for them. The book concludes with a variety of patterns utilizing the decorative edgings presented in the book. An essential addition to any library's collection.

Crocheting on the Edge is my favorite crochet book this year!

Crocheting on the Edge is a great book for experts and beginners alike. The illustrations and instructions are clear and easy to follow. I particulary liked the way the author uses different colors to indicate rows and stitch changes. Some of the projects are outstanding and very new and different. The item shown on the cover is really beautiful and an experienced crocheter can add to it to create a larger capelet or shawl. The leaf pattern can even be used as an edging for a special table cloth or any other special item for gift giving. And speaking of gift giving, this book makes a great gift for anyone you know who likes to crochet. Once again, author Nicky Epstien has created a truly great book for all crochet and knitting lovers. On a scale of one to ten, ten being my best rating, I give this book a twenty!!! I checked this book out of the library so many times that the library clerks and I used to joke about it. But when they saw me actually wearing one of the creations from this book, they all wanted to check it out. I finally decided I had to have a copy of Crocheting on the Edge of my very own to add as a favorite to my craft book collection.

    WOW!

I bought this book because I was looking at a way to finish a sweater that I was making for my daughter. I was not sure as to how I wanted to end it. This book created so many possibilities that my head was spinning. Now, I do not know which option to choose.

First, the sweaters that are featured in this book are gorgeous. If you can follow the patterns which are given at the end of the book, you will have the most expensive style sweaters that are in high fashion today!

You have your choice as to whether you want ribs, bobbles, or ruffles for your sweater. Within these categories, there are tons of different stitches. The way that they break it down and the photos of what it should like make it seem easy. I have been intimidated by some of these stitches and now, I find myself trying them out. In addition Nicky Epstein shows how to create different types of buttonholes. The only thing not really done in this book are pockets and embroidery.

However, this is a great book but it does make it a little difficult to figure out which stitch to pick because they are all so beautiful. It is a great addition to any crocheters library!
