Overview

After the excitement of the fall, all Cammie Morgan wants is peaceful semester at school. But that’s easier said than done when you’re a CIA legacy and go to the premier school in the world...for spies.

Despite Cammie's best intentions, trouble crops up quickly. Cammie, Bex, and Liz learn that the Gallagher Academy is hosting guests from another spy school — a school that is known to the world as the Ethan Frome Academy—a secret spy school for boys. After her fiasco with Josh last fall, Cammie isn't sure she's ready for daily encounters with boy spies – especially after she meets Zach — an incorrigibe cutie who everyone thinks is just perfect.

Cammie is right to be worried about their new guests. Soon after the boys’ arrival, she's blamed for a series of security breaches that leave the school's top-secret status at risk. And the perfectly crushable Zach is her prime suspect.

The Gallagher Girls will need to use all their skills to investigate the Frome Boys. Even though they're confident about their guy-spying (as if they haven't done it before!), the playing field is level this time, and the stakes for Cammie’s heart—and her beloved school— are higher than ever.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Cammie Morgan is back, and it's clear that her life hasn't calmed down since the events of I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. At first, giddy anticipation is in the air. Gallagher Academy, Cammie's elite spy school, is hosting a visit from the Ethan Frome Academy, a covert training center for boys. Soon after the boys' arrival, though, everything goes dangerously awry when a series of security breaches are discovered at the academy. Worse yet, teenage agent-in-training Cammie is being blamed for the penetration. With the school's top-secret status at risk, the Gallagher Girls have to work quickly to save their beloved school. Girl sleuths with nice asides on youthful crushes.
VOYA
AGERANGE: Ages 11 to 18.

As the spring term starts at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, the second most popular topic is the unexplained changes occurring in the East Wing. The most popular topic is Cameron Morgan's first official Langley debriefing. Although Gallagher Girls are exceptionally good spies, finding that there is a boy's version of their school comes as a surprise. The East Wing has been converted into a dormitory for the Blackthorne Boys, and their arrival changes almost everything. Learning how to be a spy while cute boys are watching is more difficult than most Gallagher Girls could have imagined. Watching the Blackthorne Boys do better than they is harder still. When the final test comes, will it be the girls versus the boys or will it be good versus evil? It is always a little nerve wracking to read the sequel to a book one truly enjoyed. Happily this reader was able to turn the last page with a smile and an excited, anxious feeling about waiting for the next Gallagher Girl book. There is still plenty of suspenseful action and supportive female friendships, but this time, how a girl spy can learn to flirt with a boy (spy) gets more attention. Because Cammie is a girl who has great spy skills, her awkwardness and cluelessness when she is around boys should give anyone hope. It is difficult to imagine what teen girl would not want to read-and reread-this second book in a butt-kicking series. Reviewer: Stacey Hayman
April 2008 (Vol. 31, No. 1)

Children's Literature
Teenage spy-in-training, Cammie Morgan, excels in espionage curricula she studies at the exclusive Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, where her mother, a former CIA operative, is headmistress. This second novel in the "Gallagher Girls" series begins with sophomore Cammie being debriefed regarding events involving her former boyfriend, Josh, which occurred in I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You. Cammie enjoys deep allegiances with fellow Gallagher Girls, but the arrival of male students and their teacher, Dr. Steven Sanders, from Blackthorne Institute disrupts that equilibrium. Boys, both civilian and spy, confound Cammie. She first encounters Zach Goode while undergoing a covert field test in Washington, D.C., with her classmates. His presence at the Gallagher Academy agitates Cammie who is unsure whether Zach and the other Blackthorne boys are friends or enemies. Cammie and her roommates initiate surveillance, using listening and tracking devices, to monitor the males. Code Black alarms thrust the students and faculty into emergency mode, and Cammie and her friends attempt to recover a stolen database containing Gallagher Academy secrets. Character development is best achieved in Cammie who grieves for her father, also a spy, who vanished on a mission, and presses her mother and teachers to learn truths concerning his disappearance. Read with Michael P. Spradlin's "Spy Goddess" and Charlie Higson's "Young Bond" series. Reviewer: Elizabeth D. Schafer
School Library Journal

Gr 7-10
Cammie Morgan has returned to the Gallagher Academy for a spring semester of spy school after being grilled by the CIA for the unfortunate events involving her first boyfriend, Josh, whom we met in I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Aug. 2006, p. 54). She is determined to concentrate on school work and leave boys behind. This becomes difficult when the Gallagher Academy hosts visitors from Blackthorne, the male equivalent of Gallagher. Cammie is baffled by the attention she receives from Zach, the hottest of the Blackthorne boys. He has the habit of showing up just when things are going wrong-such as when she encounters Josh in town or when there is a security breach at school. Cammie must determine if Zach is really interested in her or just wants to learn the school's secrets. Narrator Renee Raudman provides a well-paced narration of this novel by Ally Carter (Hyperion, 2007) and gives the teens believable voices. Chick lit? You bet, but it's well written and well plotted. Cammie and her friends are admirable, and there's enough intrigue and G-rated romance to satisfy teens and tweens. While this second book in the series stands alone, prepare for listeners to demand the first volume.

    Better than the first!

I am a huge fan of "young spy" novels, (Alex Rider especially), and romance (like Twilight). Ally Carter ties the two together perfectly in this absorbing sequel. All the characters are back, as well as some new ones too. Zachary Goode is by far one of the best characters in the series and the chemistry between him and Cammie is amazing. I highly recommend this book, even if you havent read the first one. I was only able to read this book first before I read "I'd Tell you I love you...", and even as I read it over, it still manages to make me smile. An excellent book.

    Witty and Entertaining!!!

Ally Carter incorporates a sophisticated wit that is a rare find in books of any age level. She spoofs mission impossible type situations using teenage girls who are learning to be superspies, but also new to dating and the opposite sex.

In this book, Carter captures the essence of young teenage females who are new to dating. She has taken the clumsy, uncomfortable moments that teenagers experience when they initially feel attracted to a boy or when they begin to date and turned those experiences into a humorous situational comedy.

    Absolutely Loved it!!

This is my favorite book from all the gallagher girl series. The romance between Zach and Cammie was well written. The way she didn't know how to solve guy problems and asking for Macey's help was interesting. The way that Zach keeps running to Cammie. There is nothing bad that I can say about this book. I reread it a lot of times and I'm pretty sure everyone else will. You'll love it.

I thought that this book was...

I thought that this book (Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy) Was an amazing book. The author Alyy Carter made it very, visual and emotional. It was not only cofusing at first but it also made you think. It personally had helped me to think longer harder and deeper not only about myself and the people around me but also about my suroundings and about life and the chioces people made. I think this is one of the deeper books that the (AMAZING) author Ally Carter wrote. It makes the reader(s) try thier hardest to figure out the basic questions; Who? What? When? Where? And of course Why? I think this is an excallent book for almost everyone to read! In this book some of my favorite charecters also change for reasons still unknown to me. It takes alot of thinking for me and probably alot of people to figure out what iis going on the minds of certain charecters. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

I loved this book, it was fantastic!

Have you ever spied on someone? In Ally Carter¿s book Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy, the author tells the story of Cammie Morgan a 16 year old, sophomore spy. Told from Cammie¿s point of view, Cammie realizes that her mother 'the headmistress of Gallagher Academy for Young Women- young spy women' is hiding something from her. But is she prepared to learn that the secret is another spy school for boys and that those boys are coming to her school? This book is perfect for teenage girls who love to spy. The events of the story make sense but are not too easy to follow 'especially if you¿re not a spy!' The content gets somewhat confusing when the author tells about the missions the characters go on. Other than those few times, the story is quite easy to follow. This book is great for middle aged teen girls because the content is something middle aged teens are more likely to understand. The story contains Cammie getting over her previous break-up from the first book, as this is the sequel of the series. Any girl that enjoys spying, adventure and romance with enjoy this book immensely. The romance and adventure will probably appeal to those who do not have aspirations to be a spy. Although you may want to read the first book first if you want to understand what the characters are talking about!

    I love the Gallagher series!

As soon as I picked up LYKY I couldn't put it down, and when I did put it down (because I'd finished) I couldn't wait to read the next one. This book is totally AWESOME! There aren't many books about just female spies. Sure, there are books with spy teams that had girls on them, and I love those books too, but it was really nice to finally read about a spy who was a girl. Ally Carter rocks!!! Read her blog, it's just as funny as the books and it has a lot of tips on writing. The only thing I didn't like about the series was how all the girls went crazy just because some boys came to their school. Not exactly showing the characters in their best light. But then, their best light isn't always as funny. :) Well, this review is getting kind of long so I better wrap it up. I loved this book and LYKY. Here are some instructions on what you should do now. 1) Buy the book. 2) Read the book. 3) Love the book. Just do steps 1 and 2 and step 3 will take care of itself. Almost forgot step 4) wait impatiantly for GG3.

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is about a group of girls that go

Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is about a group of girls that go to an all girl school in Washington D.C. The school they go to is Gallagher Girl Academy. They are also known as the Gallagher Girls. The school is for girls that are exceptional students. It is also where girls train to be spies for the CIA. Cammie is considered one of the best spies. Her mom is the principal at the school. He dad was also a spy. He went on a mission and never came back. She hasn’t seen him for several years. Cammie and her friends think something is up. Her mom is acting strange. Cammie was touring the school when she found a room she wasn’t supposes to see. She heard things she wasn’t supposed to hear. What did black thorn mean? There is a school hour away called Blackthorne Institute for boys. The Blackthorne Boys would be living and going to school at Gallagher Girl Academy. Cammie and her friends could not believe this. Some of the girls liked the idea of boys being around. When the boys moved in, Zach took an interest in Cammie, but she didn’t care for him. Because she was a spy she had to break up with the boy she liked, Josh. She wasn’t interested in any other boys. This book had a romance between the Gallagher Girls and Blackthorne Boys. There were times when the girls and boys were given challenges from their teachers to see how well they were learning to be spies. The ultimate challenge happened when Cammie thought one of the teachers from Blackthorne was taking a list of Gallagher Girl alumni from the school. The boys and girls worked together to solve the mystery. But it was all a set up to see if they could work together. In the end Cammie and Zach came to be friends, and maybe more than just friends. But the Blackthorne boys moved out when the semester was over.
I really liked this book. There was mystery when Blackthorn showed up, and they had to solve problems together. In this book there was romance between the boys and girls. It also makes you wonder if we pass by spies in our everyday life. It makes we realize that I should pay attention to my surroundings.

Absoloutley love this book ! My favorite book in the entire series. Love how mysterios , cute/ hot, and sweet Zach is . I especially love how he points to himself and says "Spy". Hes also kinda nauhty. I cant believe Cammie doesnt like him at first but in the middle of the book everything changes between them. I like the part where he meets Josh ( jimmy as called by Zach). Perfect book for any body that likes books with romance , action , friendship , and mysteries.

    So enticing!

This book was wonderful. The lead of the story was so enticing, i just couldnt put it down! In this book, cammie, bex, liz, macey, and the rest of the gallagher academy for exceptional young woman recieve a somewhat eerie surprise one afternoon. Aparently, there is a guy-spy school somewhere and they are spending the semester at the gallagher academy.i would reccomend this book if you like suspence-romance stories.

    Great book and author!

Ally Carter is a great author who always seems to know how to get it right. Her characters are unique, relatable, and witty. Cammie Morgan and her friends are no exception. I have read this book (and others in the series) at least ten times. Whenever I finish one of her books, I cannot wait for the next one! As an avid reader, it takes a lot for me to find a series that I can connect with because I have read so many, and I am glad to say that this is a series that I never get tired of. The books picks up at the beginning of the second semester of sophomore year and starts out in another odd situation. New characters are introduced and you will fall in love with them very fast. This is probably my favorite book in the series and I reccomend it highly to anyone who loves action, romance, and humour.

    READ THIS BOOK!

I used to hate reading before this series. Now I love reading!!! The second Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is my favorite! The romance between Cammie and Zach is so endearing! I can't stop smiling when I read these books! I literally cannot stop reading these books once I start! I have to tell my self to stop reading so I can save some for later. Plus Zach sounds so hot. SERIOUSLY READ IT!!!
