Overview

Famed interior designer Vicente Wolf is known for a modern and elegant design sensibility that is guided by integrity and simplicity. He is also a photographer of note, capturing images of his own design work and of his travels. Crossing Boundaries is a fascinating combination of the two, a spirited approach that pairs travel and design based on visits to Ethiopia, Myanmar, Syria, Madagascar, and Borneo. Wolf is an adventurous voyager, and he is captivated by how people express themselves: in the colors and patterns of clothing, the forms and features of architecture, and so on.

These influences are incorporated into his own designs, sometimes directly--a collection of brightly colored woven caps that add personality to a Wyoming log cabin--and sometimes indirectly--a composition of gray-blues and gray-greens drawn from succulent plants in a dry riverbed.

Compelling read for anyone interested in design, travel or photography

I have long been interested in design although I am not by any stretch a professional designer. I was recently introduced to the work of Vicente Wolf via a popular television program that showcased his work. Intrigued, I purchased this book and could not put it down. Through his eye, both as a photographer and interior designer, Vicente has taught me how to make my own space so much more interesting, warm and reflective. Prior to purchasing this book, I followed the mold of cookie-cutter design and realized that it lacked creativity, warmth and interest. I loved following his footsteps through remarkable countries and his meetings with remarkable and gifted people. It allowed me to further understand his vision and his brilliance as a designer and photographer. Vicente's work is particularly relevant during these difficult financial times because it is devoid of excess and pretension. It is, quite simply, exquisite, breathtaking and captivating. Thank you, Vicente Wolf, for cultivating my eye and improving my space so dramatically. I would absolutely recommend this book!!
