Wheeler Born Jan. 3, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, holds a B.A. from Long Beach State College, M.S.W. from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago. He served in the Medical Service Corps in the Ohio National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, co-founded the Long Beach Free Clinic in the 60s His career included community organization post the Watts riot, activism in juvenile justice in California and Ohio. He held positions as Director of Research at the University of Maryland's Institute of Criminal Justice and Criminology, and Harris County Community Supervision and Corrections Department, Directed Harris County Pretrial Services. His research appeared in over seventy scholarly journals, and books including COUNTER DETERRENCE (Nelson-Hall, 1978). NORTH AMERICAN REVIEW, LOUISIANA LITERATURE, AETHLON, ONTHEBUS, KALEIDOSCOPE His award-winning fiction, poetry, and equine photography have appeared in CONCHO RIVER REVIEW, HORSE OF KINGS, EQUINE JOURNAL DRESSAGE, COWBOYS & INDIANS MAGAZINE.
