- Excerpt -

The food came in record time. Roger made an effort to arrange his face into the facsimile of someone who was having a nice, calm, perfectly normal interview, sitting on the sofa calmly with his ankle resting on his knee. The waiter set them up efficiently with two beautifully cooked steaks, pouring their wine before graciously accepting a tip from Alan and slipping out the door.

“Now,” said Alan, picking up his knife and fork. “Strip.”

“I’m sorry?” Roger stopped, his hand halfway to his glass.

“I said, strip. Did you really think I was going to let you off the hook with that one?” Alan took the first bite of his steak, calmly.

“Are you serious?”

“Are you really asking me that question?” Alan looked at him mildly. “Strip. Take off your clothes and kneel there.” He pointed down to the floor, by his feet.

Realization dawned on Roger.

“You’re….” he said, images of the music video flitting through his head. “The…my video…”

“Yes,” said Alan, calmly. “Are you only just realizing that now?”

This would be the time. This would be the time to put an end to this, to draw the line.

It was on the tip of his tongue, but he just stared at Alan carefully cutting bites of his steak, and he couldn’t.
Roger began to undress.

He took his shirt off first, folding it neatly and placing it on the back of the sofa. Then his trousers, and that was it, because he’d never bothered to put on anything underneath. It was almost like he’d foreseen this.

Maybe he had.

He knelt on the floor, looking up at Alan. His stomach rumbled audibly. How long had it been since he’d eaten?
The next bite, Alan lowered the fork to Roger’s mouth. He took the meat eagerly. It was savory and tender, perfectly seasoned, almost melting in his mouth.

He swallowed. Alan was looking at him.

“Thank you,” he said, which seemed to satisfy the man.
