Overview

At the isolated, Crossroads Cafe, Jake, a revenge-filled, retired man, meets Tommy, a troubled teenager who was recently suspended from school for continued misbehavior. Jake is searching for the teen, who, in a drunken stupor, killed his family in a car accident several years before and believes Tommy can help him find the boy. As weeks pass, the long-term focus changes for them both. New priorities blossom and although in the end the culprit is found, the original purpose of the search fades into the background. There are two interesting supporting characters - Tommy’s old, sick, grandfather who owns the café and the boy’s tutor, an attractive, retirement age woman. And, of course, the caseworker from Family Services who tries her best to put Tommy into foster care.

Editorial Reviews

email - Robert Carter
A sensitive, helpful presentation of difficult topics - hatred and revenge. The story underlines the wonderful capacity of human beings to find the good in themselves and throw off the unpleasant. Here, a young teen age boy and an older man with nothing in common, forge a bond that transcends their differences and helps each one grow. A great read for teens as well as adults. I highly recommend it as one of the author's very best.
