Overview

With 10 bestsellers to her credit, Catherine Alliott delivers an "intelligent, acutely drawn picture of a difficult marriage" (Daily Telegraph), crafting a witty, sophisticated and poignant exploration of relationships and family. There are already three people in artist Imogen Cameron's marriage-herself, her husband Alex, and their son Rufus-and that's just fine with her. But suddenly the Camerons are forced to move into Alex's ex-girlfriend's cottage . . . and someone's going to have to go. The question is, who?

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Readers who cheered for Helen Fielding's endearing lead in Bridget Jones's Diary (1998) and Sophie Kinsella's Samantha Sweeting, from TheUndomestic Goddess (2005)-those great British chick-lit heroines who discover in the end that they had it in them all along-will do the same for Imogen.

This book is a great getaway book for a vacation, with plenty of drama and relationships to consider.

I do have to say that this novel does have a few brilliant twists and turns along the way.

I thought the relationship between Imogen and all of the animals was a fun aspect of the story and it allowed for a lot of misadventures and added to the humor element.

A Crowded Marriage may be the first book by Catherine Alliot that I have read, but it certainly won't be the last.

She doesn't shy away from difficult, emotionally complex situations but there is still a lightness of touch that has me smiling even when I'm crying.

This is a somewhat amusing story of a woman who moves to the country. The book revolves around Imogen making excuses for her husband, who is mostly distant. The problem for me is that Imogen is just so clueless that I wanted to slap her. It is an ok light read.
