Overview

Ex-lovers can really mess up your life.

Kate Vincent's ex, Anna, certainly does. Not only does Anna interfere in Kate's love life, but she totally screws up the world by traveling back in time to 11th century Spain and changing one crucial event. As any sane person knows, you cannot alter an event in history without altering everything that follows—but Anna has an agenda, and a score to settle.

When Kate follows Anna back to the 11th century to clean up Anna's mess before she and those she loves cease to exist, she finds herself fighting not only Anna and her hired thugs, but also another woman—the woman Kate has never stopped loving.

Romance, betrayal, and intrigue pack this tense conclusion to the epic adventure begun in The Spanish Pearl.

Meet the Author

Catherine Friend and her partner of over twenty-five years raise sheep, ducks, and goats on their southeastern Minnesota farm. Her memoir, Hit by a Farm: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Barn, was an Insightout Bookclub bestseller and chronicles what happened to her relationship and her writing career when she agreed to help her partner start the farm. (It has a happy ending.) Hit by a Farm won a 2007 GCLS award and was a finalist for a 2006 Lambda Literary Award. Catherine has also written six books for children and was awarded a 2007 Loft/McKnight Fellowship in Children's Literature.

Catherine's interests range from writing, to reading about writing, to talking about writing, all the way to worrying about not writing. She was an economist, a project manager for a technical writing firm, taught writing for ten years, edited novels, and has taken some very odd jobs to avoid returning to the corporate world. In her spare time she plays the piano, paints, and hangs out with her partner, who makes her laugh every day.

I liked it, I admit it. It had quiet the drama, suspense, some acceptable amount of action and romance. Just like the previous one, I liked the characters, but some of them were really dumb. There's one part I did not liked, but that is not a good reason to affect the score, so I will ignore it. The ending was good, not REALLY good, but good anyways.

The Crown of Valencia is the 2nd in a 2 book series by Catherine Friend. The main character in the book is a lesbian, which is what attracted me to the book in the first place. There are VERY few lesbian themed books that are well written and that even have a real story line. This book is as well written with character develepment as any of the leading authors today. It is funny, it is thrilling, it has warmth and compassion but the best part of it is the time travel. It is actually believable!! This book left me wanting book 3 and 4 and 5...it would make an excellent movie!! I have since read other books by Catherine Friend and find them just as good a read as this one and the first one in the series, The Spanish Pearl. This book is not just for the gay community...it is for everyone who loves to read! You won't want to put it down!
