    Still a favorite

Not as well written as the black company series, but to be expected from an earlier work. Still a favorite!

    Nice read

Not quite as good as his Black Company series but I really liked that series a lot. Started off a little slow but built up and ended nicely. I enjoyed it.

For fans of the Black Company

If you've read the entire Black Company (or just what you've been able to find so far) and are dying for more like it, here you go. This is a great series in many ways. The gritty grunt's perspective used in his other works is here, but this time he actually writes from the perspective of some of the larger movers and shakers of a very similar fantasy world. Sorcerers who actually have to work for their magical works, kings and generals of mighty armies who aren't born with a silver spoon in their mouth, and the best part is that nobody is a 'chosen one'. Pick this up, it's worth your time and then some.
