Meet the Author

Reginald and Lillian Carpenter are retired business professionals, who have been cruising the high seas for 25 years. Their first cruise dates back to 1986, whey they booked a one week cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Song of America.

Just over a year after their first cruise, the Carpenters were passengers on the inaugural sailing of Royal Caribbean’s grand experiment, the Sovereign of the Seas. The Sovereign was then, the largest cruise ship in the world. Moreover, it had been many decades since that title had changed hands, which made this sailing one of the biggest events in cruising, for many years prior and for quite a few years afterwards. The Sovereign was the first of the modern mega-cruise ships, with a multi-deck atrium and a huge multi-deck theater. For her size, she was faster and had a shallower draft than her contemporaries.

Since that time, the Carpenters have cruised on much larger and much smaller ships. They have sailed on many of the newer mega-ships, but have also literally “sailed” aboard the four-masted steel sailing cruise ship, Windstar. Over the years, they have made port in more than 50 ports around the world “...and that’s a conservative guess”, says Reginald. Now that they’re retired, the Carpenters are planning an Antarctic cruise.

After accumulating all those years of cruising experience, Reginald and Lillian have decided to sit down and share some of the secrets that they’ve learned, over the years - secrets that often save them money on cruises and always makes their cruising more enjoyable and hassle-free.
