Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
In the five years since his band's last album, Jon Bon Jovi has cut back on both hair spray and heavy metal antics, but his passion for larger-than-life rock anthems remains undiminished. And while he's now likely to drape those trademark lighter-igniters in sonic threads -- like the filter-distorted vocal on "Say It Isn't So" and the electronic intro to "It's My Life" -- that might strike longtime fans as a bit odd, there's nothing unfamiliar about the blend of yearning and optimism that peppers CRUSH's dozen tracks. Jon still can't keep himself from unleashing a scenery-chewing ballad or two "Thank You" might be his cheesiest yet, but he balances that by revealing some previously unseen facets of his persona. On the shuffling "Two Story Town," he dons a Mellencamp-style cloak of populism, shaking his head at the foibles of the modern world, while "Older" finds him unapologetic about celebrating the extra candles on his birthday cake. Bon Jovi hasn't shed all of their old-school traits -- "The Next 100 Years" and "One Wild Night" could both, with a few tweaks, fit in on SLIPPERY WHEN WET -- but unlike most of their onetime contemporaries, the band sound perfectly comfortable living in the modern world.
All Music Guide - Steve Huey
Even if it was classified as pop-metal, Bon Jovi never really was much of a metal band, relying on big, catchy melodies and not guitar riffs to make their songs memorable. That's why, in 2000, they're able to make an album like Crush, which strays far enough into pop
ock to actually stand a chance of getting airplay which it did, with the hit lead single "It's My Life". The guitar crunch on the uptempo numbers keeps Bon Jovi from becoming a full-fledged pop
ock band, but in addition to the typical hard rockers, there are nods to heartland rock, Bryan Adams-style adult contemporary balladry "Thank You for Loving Me", the Beatles the surprisingly effective "Say It Isn't So", and even British glam à la T. Rex or David Bowie "Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen From Mars". Occasionally, it sounds like the band is attempting to cover as many bases as possible for multi-format appeal, but for the most part, the variety -- coupled with the consistently polished songcraft -- makes for a surprisingly listenable album. The production is a little more electronic-tinged, but not obtrusively high-tech, so the band doesn't come off as desperate to sound contemporary. Aside from a couple of missteps the soppy, aforementioned "Thank You for Loving Me" and the mawkish posturing of "Save the World", Crush is a solidly crafted mainstream rock record that's much better than most might expect. Even if Crush is more measured than Bon Jovi's early work, "Just Older" sums up the band's acceptance of their status nicely: "The skin I'm in is all right with me/It's not old, just older."

    Poppy, but really enjoyable

All that you have read about Crush is true: this is the poppiest album that Bon Jovi has recorded. It's my life, Say it isn't so, Thank your for loving me, Captain Crash, Mystery Train, Next 100 years, Two story town are all POP songs what does it mean? That this, by far, the most accesible, lighter and "Beach boys-Summertime record" of Jon and his boys. That would be a shame if the songs weren't strong, but THEY ARE! They have great melodies, great hooks and are really funny. Crush won't be the most transcendental album of Bon Jovi (in fact, the only "serious" Bon Jovi albums are New jersey, Keep the faith and These days), but Crush is highly enjoyable.

Improving On What Was Already Great!

This album is as good as it gets! Bon Jovi continues their streak of hit songs with the defiant 'it's my live', the Beatles Style "say it isn't so", a song just begging to be mixed with Aerosmiths "i don¿t want to miss a thing": "Thank you for loving me", The tribute to love and fun "Captain Crash", the love song to a child "I Got the Girl", the nostalgic look at their career with "Save the world" and "Just Older" as well as the Rock and Roll fast songs and ballads that we have grown to love. This album is a greatest hits collection of new songs. WAY TO GO!

    Great Album

I'm 12, and a new Bon Jovi fan. This was my 1st of 2 albums so far, and I LOVE it! I fell in love with the band when they released ''It's My Life''

    Another listener

This album is worth the wait after 5 years. This is the new album released since 1995's ''THESE DAYS''. I only gave it a 4 because former bassist Alec John Such no longer works with Bon Jovi.

CRUSH will leave an IMPRESSion on you!!!

Whether you are a Bon Jovi FAN of old, or a new FAN - you'll not be disappointed by this one!! The band has improved their musician-ship and the songwriting is still among the best ever! This recording is HUGE around the world - all of you true rock n' roll enthusiasts of the 80', 90's, and today should pick this one up, if you haven't already! And the shows I have seen this year were INCREDIBLE!! If there was an option for a 6th star, Jon, Richie, and the boys should get it!

    Awesome CD

I think this is one of their better albums. I recommend this one to anybody, even if you are not a real fan. ''It's My Life'' reminds me of their earlier music and I like the reference back to ''Living on a Prayer''. Must have album.

The title is very powerful.Crush! There are so many emotions that has been discovered by the title itself. The songs are great, and they are very popular in Croatia.

    Bon Jovi CRUSHing Down Under

Another great rock album from Bon Jovi. The record has a lot of Bon Jovi's signature style of rock music balanced by a couple of soft rock songs. Great songs in Its My Life, Captain Crash, and Two Story Town. ALL FANS MUST BUY THIS!!!

    Worth the Wait

Absolutely worth the wait! For those who love the Bon Jovi of the 80's, much of the same sound is back! 'Thank you for loving me' is one of their best love songs yet--even against others that seem hard to beat. A must have for Bon Jovi fans!

    What a great cd!

Bon Jovi's new album is a return to pop metal, and it's one of the best albums of the year. There is not a bad track on the album and it's good to see the bands of the 80's, such as Bon Jovi and others to make such wonderful music. This cd ROCKS!!!!
