Cry of the Dragon
In a war-torn world, the recently orphaned Yashamaru is a boy with little hope and little prospects. Adopted by the priestess of Mikawa Village, his unique heritage turns most away in fear, except for his faithful friends, the woodcarver's son, Yuki, and Tsuna, a priestess-in-training. He longs for a place to call home, where he can find true love, acceptance and the strength to move on from his past. But his blood is beginning to stir. Blood that is half-dragon, calling out to him in dreams. To his terror, Yashamaru realizes the past might not be as dead as he imagined.

Lord Kawatake is a ruthless warlord, scheming to conquer the ancient city of Kyoto and unite Japan's fractured realms under his leadership. But while his goal appears to be noble, it isn't without its own costs. And there are those who disagree, and who may be harboring their own plans.

Boy and man, connected by a shared tragedy, are destined to collide. But when they do, will it bring the peace and resolution they both desire? Or will it burn everything they hold dear to ashes, taking countless lives along with them?

Cry of the Dragon is a tale brimming with mysticism, action, and mythology. While grand in its scope, it leaves room for a more intimate look at grief, trauma, and the devastation they leave behind. It follows the struggles and hopes of its three young protagonists as they deal with the sudden and unexpected changes that life can bring, friendship, romance, all while holding onto the hope that one day they will find their place in the world.

About the Author

N.D. LaPlante is a native of Washington, Missouri, a small river town an hour’s west of St. Louis. She has always held a love of reading and of creative writing. After a number of stints in numerous fields, including two years of living in Japan, she finally decided to take on writing as a profession. She credits much of her inspiration to music, folklore, and ancient cultures.

When she isn’t writing, she can be found haunting local book sales (even though her bookshelves are bulging at the seams), painting, or fighting with her cat Mio for possession of her office chair.

This is her first novel.
